  • Ultrasensitive LPFG corrosion sensor with Fe-C coating electroplated on a Gr/AgNW film

    摘要: This paper presents the first report on an ultrasensitive Fe-C coated long period fiber gratings (LPFG) corrosion sensor with graphene (Gr) and silver nanowire (AgNW) composite as a conductive film for Fe-C electroplating. The Gr/AgNW composite was grown on copper foil, wet transferred and adhered to the curve surface of the fiber optic sensor under atmospheric pressure and heating conditions. For comparison, another Fe-C coated LPFG sensor was prepared with silver nano ink as a conductive film. Both sensors were tested for 72 h in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution with simultaneous measurements of transmission spectrum and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Due to its high optical transparency, the Gr/AgNW composite increased the wavelength sensitivity and service life of a Fe-C coated LPFG sensor by over 90% and 110%, respectively. The effective depth of influence to the evanescent field surrounding the LPFG sensor was 23.6 μm with the silver film and greater than 30 μm with the Gr/AgNW film.

  • Corrosion study of laser cladded Ti-6Al-4V alloy in different corrosive environments

    摘要: Laser cladding of Ti-6Al-4V powder on a substrate with the same chemical composition was performed at different laser powers. The effect of laser power on the microstructure and corrosion behavior was then investigated. Electrochemical studies were performed by potentiodynamic polarization tests in different corrosive environments (3.5% NaCl, 2% H2SO4 and 5% HCl solutions). Microstructural investigation together with phase characterization revealed that laser cladded Ti-6Al-4V coatings were composed of needle-like martensite (ɑ/) and coaxial hexagonal compact (ɑ) phases. The coatings were crack-free; however, some cavities were observed in the coatings produced at high laser powers. In all three corrosive environments, the coatings showed a more noble corrosion behavior compared to the untreated substrate. The results showed that corrosion potential increases from ?410 (mV) to ?130 (mV) in NaCl and from ?50 (mV) to ?20 (mV) in H2SO4 enviroments but decreases from ?60 (mV) to ?270 (mV) in HCl solution. Increasing laser power had a positive effect on the corrosion behavior in NaCl and H2SO4 solutions; however, it had a negative effect on the corrosion behavior in HCl solution.

  • AFM-assisted investigation of conformal coatings in electronics

    摘要: Purpose – This paper aims to presents a new method of investigation of local properties of conformal coatings utilized in microelectronics. Design/methodology/approach – It is based on atomic force microscopy (AFM) technique supplemented with the ability of local electrical measurements, which apart from topography acquisition allows recording of local impedance spectra, impedance imaging and dc current mapping. Potentialities of the proposed AFM-assisted approach have been demonstrated on commercially available epoxy-coated electronic printed boards in as-received state and after six-year service. Findings – The technique proved to be capable of identi?cation, spatial localization and characterization of conformal coating defects. Practical implications – The proposed approach can be utilized for assessment of protective ?lm state in such demanding ?elds as electronics or electrotechnics where the classical techniques of anticorrosion coatings investigation cannot be employed due to small element dimensions and relatively low coating thickness. Originality/value – The approach adopted by the author is novel in the ?eld of organic coatings investigation.

  • Preparation of Anion Exchanger for High-Efficiency Purification of Halogen-substituted Hydrocarbon Solvents Used To Clean Metal Optics

    摘要: Phenomenon of rising sorption capacity of AV-17-8 anion exchanger upon an increase in its humidity due to the superequivalent absorption of Cl– ions was revealed and substantiated. The puri? cation of halogen-substituted hydrocarbon solvents to remove acids under dynamic conditions by the ion-exchange method and the dynamics of sorption by anion exchangers of halogen-substituted solvents from model solutions were studied. It was shown that AV-17-8 anion exchanger is stable in halogen-substituted solvents and, when present in the OH– form, raises their stability against destruction, and the equilibrium sorption capacity of the anion exchanger is 2–3 times its exchange capacity.

  • Preparation and properties of duplex NI-P-TIO <sub/>2</sub> /NI nanocomposite coatings

    摘要: Duplex Ni-P-TiO2/Ni coatings were deposited on the brass substrate by using two baths. Ni-P-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings were electroplated as the outer layer on the Ni-plated brass substrate by adding transparent TiO2 sol (0–50 mL/L) into the Ni-P plating solution. The microstructure, mechanical property and corrosion resistance of the duplex Ni-P-TiO2/Ni nanocomposite coatings were systemically investigated. The results show that the interface of duplex coating was uniform and the adhesion between two layers was extremely good. The microhardness of duplex Ni-P-12.5 mL/L TiO2 /Ni coating was ~616 HV50 compared to ~539 HV50 of Ni-P /Ni coating and ~307 HV50 of single Ni coating. Meanwhile, the wear resistance and the corrosion resistance of the duplex nanocomposite coating have also been improved remarkably compared with single Ni coating. However, adding excessive TiO2 sol (more than 12.5 mL/L) caused the agglomeration of TiO2 nanoparticles and led to a porous structure in the outer layer, resulting in the deterioration of coating properties.

In this manuscript, we are using PLD to reduce the corrosion rate of the stainless steel 304 in hydrochloric acid with the concentration of 1 M and the immersion time of 4 minutes at room temperature. This method opens prospects to use the enhanced stainless steel for many electronics and manufacturing applications.

  • Ni-P-TiO <sub/>2</sub> nanocomposite coatings with uniformly dispersed Ni <sub/>3</sub> Ti intermetallics: effects of TiO <sub/>2</sub> nanoparticles concentration

    摘要: Ni-P-TiO2 nanocomposite coatings were electrodeposited on copper substrates and influence of TiO2 nanoparticles concentration on the phase structure, morphology, chemical composition, microhardness, and corrosion behaviour of the coatings was investigated. Results demonstrate that Ni3Ti intermetallics form and grow during the electrodeposition of the coatings. This study is the first to report the formation of the intermetallics in the case of electrodeposited Ni-P alloy matrix composite coatings. Moreover, the formation mechanism of the intermetallics is discussed in detail. The formed intermetallics dispersed uniformly throughout the microstructure of the nanocomposite coatings, thereby playing a critical role in improving the mechanical and corrosion-related properties of the coatings. Ni-P-10 g·L?1 TiO2 nanocomposite coating possessing the highest amount of Ni3Ti intermetallic associated with the lowest P content, thereby showing the superior microhardness and corrosion resistance. All in all, the volume fraction of Ni3Ti intermetallics is the dominant factor altering the various properties of the coatings.

  • A novel growth strategy of TiO<sub>2</sub> anodic films using surface residual stress as driving force

    摘要: The relationship between residual stress and growth behavior of anodic titanium oxide films (TiO2) was investigated in terms of defect chemistry and the nanocrystalline materials thermodynamic. The results showed that the surface residual stress can be controlled by acting on the duration of the surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT). When samples are processed by grinding for 30 min, the residual stress value reaches a maximum of 73.13 MPa, approximately 7.2 times higher than the one obtained with untreated sample. Under these conditions, the thickness of the anodic film was about 1200 nm, three times that of the TA2 anodic film. Furthermore, the results of electrochemical tests showed that following the surface mechanical attrition treatment, the anodic film show lower density vacancies, higher resistance to the diffusion of Cl-, higher density, and an improved corrosion resistance when compared to TA2. Generally speaking, the growth behavior of the anodic film can be improved by identifying the suitable residual stress.

  • Fiber Optic Sensors Based on Photoacoustic Effect for Rebar Corrosion Measurement

    摘要: An all-optical ultrasound sensing system based on photoacoustic principle is developed to monitor and investigate the initiation of early stage steel rebar corrosion in real time. The ultrasound generator was developed by small size gold nanocomposites coated optical fibers to generate 8-MHz bandwidth signals. The ultrasound receiver was applied by a fiber Bragg grating sensor. This system was employed for the first time as a disruptive approach in order to replace the application of conventional electrical-based sensors due to their unique advantages including miniature size, lightweight, immunity to electromagnetic interference, resistance to corrosion, and distributed sensing capability. Accelerated corrosion tests were conducted on steel rebars to validate the developed sensing system. The obtained results indicated that the mass loss of corroded steel rebars was characterized by the centroid frequency shift of measured ultrasound signals. The correlation between the centroid frequency shift and the mass loss depicted an exponential relationship.

  • Corrosion Resistance of Aluminum against Acid Activation: Impact of Benzothiazole-Substituted Gallium Phthalocyanine

    摘要: This study describes the adsorption behavior of organic inhibitors at the aluminum-HCl solution interface and their corrosion inhibition performance. The organic inhibitors employed are: 4-(benzo [d]thiazol-2ylthio)phthalonitrile (BTThio) and tetrakis[(benzo[d]thiazol-2-yl-thio)phthalocyaninato]gallium(III) chloride (ClGaBTThioPc). The corrosion behavior of these inhibitors is investigated using electrochemical and computational techniques. Open circuit potential results reveal predominant cathodic character for the mechanism of aluminum corrosion inhibition by the inhibitors. Inhibition efficiency values from potentiodynamic polarization measurements increase from 46.9 to 70.8% for BTThio and 59.7 to 81.0% for ClGaBTThioPc within the concentration range of 2 to 10 μM. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements reveal protection of the metal surface from acid attack, in the presence of the inhibitors and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) measurements show that the most probable way by which the inhibitors protect the metal surface would be by shielding it from the corrosion attacks of Cl? from the acid. Quantum chemical parameters corroborate well with experimental findings.
