The effect of morphology and functionalization on UV detection properties of ZnO networked tetrapods and single nanowires
摘要: Rapid detection and fast response of nanoelectronic devices based on semiconducting oxides is nowadays a modern and stringent subject of research. Device performances depend mainly on the morphologies of the metal oxide nanostructures. In the scope of this work, the influence of the structural morphology of three-dimensional (3-D) ZnO nano- and microstructured networks on the room temperature UV detection properties is studied in detail. We show that the formation of multiple potential barriers between the nanostructures, as well as the diameter of the nanostructures, which is in the same order of magnitude as the Debye length, strongly influence the UV sensing properties. Consequently, 3-D ZnO networks consisting of interconnected ultra-long wire-like tips (up to 10 μm) and with small wire diameters of 50–150 nm, demonstrated the highest UV sensing performances (UV response ratio of ~3100 at 5 V applied bias voltage). Furthermore, we demonstrate the possibility of substantially increasing the UV sensing performances of individual ZnO nanowire (NW) (diameter of ~50 nm) by surface functionalization with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), showing high response ratio (~60–50 mW/cm2), as well as fast response (~1 s) and recovery (~1 s) times. The obtained results thus provide a platform with respect to the next generation of portable UV radiation detectors based on semiconducting oxide networks.

All solution-based heterogeneous material formation for p-n junction diodes
摘要: All solution-based devices have potential as the next class of macroscale and multifunctional electronics on versatile amorphous substrates. Different methods and materials have been studied to control the formation of p-type and n-type semiconducting materials because forming active materials for transistors and sensors remains challenge. This study proposes an approach for solution-based devices in which a p-n junction diode is fabricated using a solution-based InZnO (IZO) thin film for the n-type semiconductor and a carbon nanotube (CNT) network film for the p-type semiconductor. Additionally, the barrier height (~160 meV) is extracted and a p-n junction diode on a plastic film is demonstrated. Although the performance requires further improvements by modifying the interfaces, this printing method may be an interesting approach for all-printed electronics, which can replace conventional Si electronics.

Bright Stretchable Electroluminescent Devices based on Silver Nanowire Electrodes and High-k Thermoplastic Elastomers
摘要: Stretchable electroluminescent device is a compliant form of light emitting device to expand the application areas of conventional optoelectronics on rigid wafers. Currently, practical implementations are impeded by the high operating voltage required to achieve sufficient brightness. In this study, we report the fabrication of an intrinsically stretchable electroluminescent device based on silver nanowire electrodes and high-k thermoplastic elastomer. The device exhibit bright emission with low driving voltage by using polar elastomer as the dielectric matrix of the electroluminescent layer. Highly stretchable silver nanowire electrodes contribute to the exceptional elasticity and durability of the device in spite of bending, stretching, twisting, puncturing and cutting. Stretchable electroluminescent devices developed here may find potential uses in wearable displays, deformable lightings, and soft robotics.

Resistive switching effect enhanced by light irradiation in C/BaTiO <sub/>3</sub> /C memory structure
摘要: The Ta/[C/BaTiO3/C]/Si device was obtained. The resistive switching (RS) behaviors of the Ta/[C/BaTiO3/C]/Si device are studied in the dark and under white-light illumination with various power densities. The results show that the device displays bipolar RS effect, which can be modulated by the white light. And the RS memory device shows biggish resistance ratio, which is more than 105 under white-light irradiation with a power density of 40 mW/cm2, and the ratio can stabilize at nearly 71 cycles. This work is helpful for the optical control non-volatile memory.

摘要: Cytokine detection is an essential topic for biomedical research. Herein we demonstrated an ex-vivo device based on a silica optical fibre for monitoring of locally variable cytokine IL-6 concentrations using a sandwich immunoassay scheme. The fibre was designed to be introduced into the perforated catheter with micrometre size holes drilled along its length to enable fluid exchange between the outside and inside of the catheter. An exposed optical fibre (diameter 125 μm) modified with a layer of gold nanoparticles was functionalized with the IL-6 capture antibody to form the sensing interface. The IL-6 detection antibody which was loaded on the fluorescently labelled magnetic nanoparticles, was used for reporting the analyte signal. This device was successfully applied to detect cytokine IL-6 with the detection limit of 1 pg mL-1 in the sample volume of 1 μL. It has the linear detection range of 1-400 pg mL-1 and is capable of detecting localised IL-6 secreted by BV2 cells following their liposaccharide stimulation. This universal biological detection system is suitable as a platform for the in-vivo devices able to monitor multiple health conditions.

摘要: Mid-?eld wireless power transfer (MF-WPT) is a scheme developed for transcutaneous power transfer to micro-implants kept deep inside the body in GHz frequency. With deep seated implants, the possible locations available for application increases to almost the entire body. But, this advantage of applicability is severely limited as the power delivered to the micro implants by MF-WPT is very low -in the range of few 100W. Yet, the mid-?eld operations have higher ef?ciency in miniaturized weakly coupled coil implants compared to traditional near-?eld system. So, with improvement in certain aspects, MF-WPT is expected to play a vital role in biomedical ?eld. For the same reason this paper focuses on analyses of literature available in various aspects of MF-WPT, its challenges, drawbacks and future scope of the scheme in medical ?eld.

摘要: UV (Ultraviolet) is known to negatively affect human body. Especially UVA promotes skin aging, and UVB enhances skin cancer prevalence. UVB, however, offers a useful function to support vitamin D production within human body. Therefore it is needed for people to be exposed to UV through proper outdoor activities and to acquire UV environmental information surrounding them. In this regard, this study devises a band-type device to measure UV irradiance in everyday life. The proposed device consists of a band to wear the device on user’s wrist, arduino-based micro controller, and a UV sensor measuring UV irradiance. The proposed band-type device is expected to induce appropriate outdoor activities in the UV environment that does not harm human body by offering precise information on UV index and UVB irradiance surrounding users.

True Random Number Generator Realized by Extracting Entropy from a Negative-Inductance Superconducting Quantum Interference Device
摘要: A new type of superconductive true random number generator (TRNG) based on a negative-inductance superconducting quantum interference device (nSQUID) is proposed. The entropy harnessed to generate random numbers comes from the phenomenon of symmetry breaking in the nSQUID. The experimental circuit is fabricated by the Nb-based lift-off process. Low-temperature tests of the circuit verify the basic function of the proposed TRNG. The frequency characteristics of the TRNG have been analyzed by simulation. The generation rate of random numbers is expected to achieve hundreds of megahertz to tens of gigahertz.

Portable Mid-Infrared Device and Chemometrics for the Prediction of Low (0.5%) Total <i>Trans</i> Fat Content in Fast Foods
摘要: The ruling that partially hydrogenated oils (PHO) are no longer “generally recognized as safe (GRAS),” has accelerated the replacement of PHO ingredients with fat alternatives having increasingly lower or no trans fat content. In the present study, we developed a Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic procedure in conjunction with multivariate partial least squares regression (PLSR) and found it suitable for the accurate prediction of low (0.5%) total trans fat content, as percentage of total fat, measured as fatty acid methyl esters (FAME), in the lipids extracted from 24 representative fast foods. This multivariate data analysis approach is relevant because the precision of the current univariate FTIR official method (AOCS Cd 14-09) is reportedly poor below 2% of total fat, while PLSR has allowed us to accurately predict the concentration of low trans fat in fast foods. The performance of a portable FTIR device was also evaluated and compared to that of a benchtop FTIR spectrometer. For both infrared data sets, PLSR-predicted concentrations of total trans FAME, ranging from approximately 0.47% to 11.40% of total FAME, were in good agreement with those determined by a primary reference gas chromatography (GC) method (R2>0.99); high prediction accuracy was also evidenced by low root mean square error of cross-validation (RMSECV) values. The lowest RMSECV error of 0.12% was obtained with the portable device. The lowest total trans FAME concentration, determined by GC to be 0.42%, was accurately predicted by the portable FTIR/PLSR procedure as 0.47% of total FAME.

High-dimensional measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution on two-dimensional subspaces
摘要: Quantum key distribution (QKD) provides ultimate cryptographic security based on the laws of quantum mechanics. For point-to-point QKD protocols, the security of the generated key is compromised by detector side channel attacks. This problem can be solved with measurement-device-independent QKD (mdi-QKD). However, mdi-QKD has shown limited performances in terms of the secret key generation rate, due to postselection in the Bell measurements. We show that high-dimensional (Hi-D) encoding (qudits) improves the performance of current mdi-QKD implementations. The scheme is proven to be unconditionally secure even for weak coherent pulses with decoy states, while the secret key rate is derived in the single-photon case. Our analysis includes phase errors, imperfect sources, and dark counts to mimic real systems. Compared to the standard bidimensional case, we show an improvement in the key generation rate.
