  • Effects of spectral diffusion on the nonlinear optical properties in two- and three-state quantum systems in a four-wave mixing signal

    摘要: Effects of spectral diffusion on the third-order nonlinear susceptibility for two- and three-level quantum systems, immersed in a thermal reservoir, are evaluated with a four-wave mixing (FWM) signal through the density matrix formalism. For this, inhomogeneously broadened two- and three-level quantum systems are used. In these models, the distribution of natural frequencies follows a Lorentzian function. The absorptive and dispersive nonlinear optical responses are determined for the considered quantum models. The results presented in this work show potential applications in the development of optical switches and provide a potential method to measure spectral diffusion relaxation times in three-level quantum systems.

    摘要: Millimeter Waves (MMWs) operating at 30–300 GHz band, is very encouraging to the next-generation 5G wireless communication systems, supporting data rates of multiple Gbps per user. By using the Four Wave Mixing (FWM), Self-Phase Modulation (SPM) and Cross Phase Modulation (XPM) effects in the Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) and Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), the photonic millimeter switching is realized. These effects can reduce the switching crosstalk since the Optical Single Sideband (OSSB) signal occupies the least optical bandwidth. The best operating conditions improve the Sideband Suppression Ratio (SSR) and at the same time reduce the intensity of unintended sideband signal. This leads to a dispersion-free transmission in the optical fiber and improves the data rate as required in 5G communication. In this paper, the wavelength switching of a 9 Gbps QPSK signal carried on the 30 GHz over a spacing of 1.6 nm as a function of probe wavelength of 1548.515 nm and pump wavelength of 1550.115 nm is achieved.

  • Suppression of four-wave mixing in a 22?×?10?Gbps dense wavelength division multiplexed system by linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings

    摘要: A scheme comprising two linearly chirped fiber Bragg gratings (LCFBGs) is proposed to suppress four-wave mixing (FWM) effects in a 22×10? Gbps dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) system employing dispersion shifted fiber with 0.2? nm channel spacing. The FWM reduction in our proposed scheme has been studied by varying the input signal power per channel from ? 2 to + 10? dBm. The parameters of LCFBGs are optimized to obtain a maximum quality factor for all 22 channels. The proposed method is effective even at high input power (10?dBm) and provides a simple, cost effective way to improve the transmission performance in DWDM system.

  • Panda Resonator Structure to Generate Four-Wave Mixing by Nonlinear Effect

    摘要: Finite-difference time domain (FDTD) simulation has been used for modeling of nonlinear optical interaction in a modified microring resonator as Panda structure. By proposing the Panda structure which has been modeled using both silicon and material (Chi2) with nonlinear effect, generation of four-wave mixing is feasible. Due to the nonlinear interaction between the two input waves as pump and signal within the microring resonators the results show the generation of three picks including the pump, signal and converted wave. In the case, if the silicon has been utilized as the core waveguide, the resonance interferences occur, where the high Qfactor of the resonance frequencies was obtained as 3.87 × 103 in the drop port outputs. Compared to silicon material, the nonlinear material shows a better power transferring performances. In the results showing the four-wave mixing, the converted wave has a lower power than the signal and pump.

  • Long Exciton Dephasing Time and Coherent Phonon Coupling in CsPbBr <sub/>2</sub> Cl Perovskite Nanocrystals

    摘要: Fully-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have shown to exhibit outstanding optical properties such as wide spectral tunability, high quantum yield, high oscillator strength as well as blinking-free single photon emission and low spectral diffusion. Here, we report measurements of the coherent and incoherent exciton dynamics on the 100 fs to 10 ns timescale, determining dephasing and density decay rates in these NCs. The experiments are performed on CsPbBr2Cl NCs using transient resonant three-pulse four-wave mixing (FWM) in heterodyne detection at temperatures ranging from 5 K to 50 K. We found a low-temperature exciton dephasing time of 24.5±1.0 ps, inferred from the decay of the photon-echo amplitude at 5 K, corresponding to a homogeneous linewidth (FWHM) of 54±5 μeV. Furthermore, oscillations in the photon-echo signal on a picosecond timescale are observed and attributed to coherent coupling of the exciton to a quantized phonon mode with 3.45 meV energy.

  • Heralded single-photon and correlated-photon-pair generation via spontaneous four-wave mixing in tapered optical fibers

    摘要: We study the generation of frequency nondegenerate correlated photon pairs and heralded single photons via spontaneous four-wave mixing (SFWM) in a series of identical micro- or nano?bers (MNFs). Joint spectral intensity of the biphoton ?eld generated at wavelengths of about 880 and 1310 nm has been measured under excitation by 100-ps laser pulses demonstrating good agreement with the theoretical prediction. The measured zero-time second-order autocorrelation function was about 0.2 when the emission rate of the heralded photons was of 4 Hz. The MNF-based source perfectly matches standard single-mode ?bers, which makes it compatible with the existing ?ber communication networks. In addition, SFWM observation in a series of identical MNFs allows for increasing the generation rate of single photons via spatial multiplexing.

    摘要: Phase manipulation of four-mode phase-sensitive (4MPS) process was developed as a means for suppression of high-order four wave mixing (HoFWM) terms in dual-pump driven parametric wavelength multicasting and, consequently, for reduction of inter-channel crosstalk and inter-channel interference. In contrast to the previous studies that focused on power stabilization and conversion efficiency maximization, the investigation in this paper focuses on the evolution of the inter-channel HoFWM tones, whose suppression can be accomplished by arranging the phases of signals in a complementary manner. In addition, broadband 4MPS multicasting with suppressed HoFWM effects over 100-nm bandwidth, reaching up to 12-dB suppression ratio was demonstrated.

  • 2D Layered Graphene Oxide Films Integrated with Microa??Ring Resonators for Enhanced Nonlinear Optics

    摘要: Layered 2D graphene oxide (GO) films are integrated with micro-ring resonators (MRRs) to experimentally demonstrate enhanced nonlinear optics. Both uniformly coated (1?5 layers) and patterned (10?50 layers) GO films are integrated on complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible doped silica MRRs using a large-area, transfer-free, layer-by-layer GO coating method with precise control of the film thickness. The patterned devices further employ photolithography and lift-off processes to enable precise control of the film placement and coating length. Four-wave-mixing (FWM) measurements for different pump powers and resonant wavelengths show a significant improvement in efficiency of ≈7.6 dB for a uniformly coated device with 1 GO layer and ≈10.3 dB for a patterned device with 50 GO layers. The measurements agree well with theory, with the enhancement in FWM efficiency resulting from the high Kerr nonlinearity and low loss of the GO films combined with the strong light–matter interaction within the MRRs. The dependence of GO’s third-order nonlinearity on layer number and pump power is also extracted from the FWM measurements, revealing interesting physical insights about the evolution of the GO films from 2D monolayers to quasi bulk-like behavior. These results confirm the high nonlinear optical performance of integrated photonic resonators incorporated with 2D layered GO films.

  • Two-dimensional plasmonic waveguides for nanolasing and four-wave mixing

    摘要: Plasmonic waveguides are an essential element of nanoscale coherent sources, including nanolasers and four-wave mixing (FWM) devices. Here we report how the design of the plasmonic waveguide needs to be guided by the ultimate application. This contrasts with traditional approaches in which the waveguide is considered in isolation. We ?nd that hybrid plasmonic waveguides, with a nonlinear material sandwiched between the metal substrate and a high-index layer, are best suited for FWM applications, whereas metallic wedges are preferred in nanolasers. We also ?nd that in plasmonic nanolasers high-index buffer layers perform better than more traditional low-index buffers.
