Novel BODIPY-conjugated amino acids: Synthesis and spectral properties
摘要: Three BODIPY-based conjugates with lysine, methionine, and tryptophan bound via amino group were synthesized and characterized. Spectral properties of the compounds were studied and a number of photophysical characteristics were obtained. Bioconjugates investigated are water soluble, which makes them promising markers for various bioobjects.

Conformal image-guided microbeam radiation therapy at the ESRF biomedical beamline ID17
摘要: Purpose: Upcoming veterinary trials in microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) demand for more advanced irradiation techniques than in preclinical research with small animals. The treatment of deep-seated tumors in cats and dogs with MRT requires sophisticated irradiation geometries from multiple ports, which impose further efforts to spare the normal tissue surrounding the target. Methods: This work presents the development and benchmarking of a precise patient alignment protocol for MRT at the biomedical beamline ID17 of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). The positioning of the patient prior to irradiation is verified by taking x-ray projection images from different angles. Results: Using four external fiducial markers of 1.7 mm diameter and computed tomography-based treatment planning, a target alignment error of less than 2 mm can be achieved with an angular deviation of less than 2?. Minor improvements on the protocol and the use of smaller markers indicate that even a precision better than 1 mm is technically feasible. Detailed investigations concerning the imaging dose lead to the conclusion that doses for skull radiographs lie in the same range as dose reference levels for human head radiographs. A currently used online dose monitor for MRT has been proven to give reliable results for the imaging beam. Conclusions: The ESRF biomedical beamline ID17 is technically ready to apply conformal image-guided MRT from multiple ports to large animals during future veterinary trials.

Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Measures and Cognitive Function in the EPIC-Norfolk Cohort Study
摘要: PURPOSE. We examined the relationship between retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness and cognitive function in a population of older British adults. METHODS. Participants of the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer (EPIC) Norfolk cohort study underwent ophthalmic and cognitive assessment. Measurements of RNFL thickness were made using the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT). Cognitive testing included a short form of the Mini-Mental State Examination (SF-MMSE), an animal naming task, a letter cancellation task, the Hopkins Verbal Learning Test (HVLT), the National Adult Reading Test (NART), and the Paired Associates Learning Test. Multivariable linear regression models were used to assess associations of RNFL thickness with cognitive test scores, adjusted for age, sex, education level, social class, visual acuity, axial length, and history of cataract surgery. RESULTS. Data were available from 5563 participants with a mean age of 67 years. A thicker HRT-derived RNFL thickness was associated with better scores for the SF-MMSE (0.06; 95% confidence interval [CI], [0.02, 0.10], P ? 0.005), HVLT (0.16, 95% CI [0.03, 0.29]; P ? 0.014), and NART ((cid:2)0.24, 95% CI [(cid:2)0.46, (cid:2)0.02], P ? 0.035). The associations of RNFL thickness with SF-MMSE and HVLT remained significant following further adjustment for NART. CONCLUSIONS. We found a significant association between HRT-derived RNFL thickness and scores from cognitive tests assessing global function, recognition, learning, episodic memory, and premorbid intelligence. However, the associations were weak and not currently of predictive value. Further research is required to confirm and clarify the nature of these associations, and identify biological mechanisms.

摘要: THz bioanalytical techniques are already proven as a viable tool for the label-free detection of biomolecules. But still, significant improvement of THz sensing techniques is needed to reach application relevant sensitivity levels. We present the label-free THz sensing of human tumor markers using a highly sensitive metamaterial based THz biosensor. High affinity binding of the specific protein to DNA is utilized for localized functionalization to further enhance the detection sensitivity.

Enhanced light-emitting diode induced fluorescence detection system with capillary electrophoresis
摘要: An enhanced fluorescence detection system of capillary electrophoresis (CE) was equipped with a concave silver mirror, by which the detection sensitivity of light-emitting diode induced fluorescence (LEDIF) can be increased greatly. The silver concave mirror and the cathode window in photomultiplier tube (PMT) were accurately set face to face at the same axis. When the two labeled tumor markers exactly moved to the center of detection window, the emission from analytes are excitated by LED source. Currently, the analytes may be regarded as a luminescent source point. When the source point exactly moves to the focus of the concave mirror, the emission of the labeled sample was collected effectively, enhanced by convergence and reflected by the concave mirror. Then it was sensitively detected by the PMT. The optical mechanism of enhancing detection sensitivity was explored. A simple comparative test on sensitivity was carried out, which aimed to compare sensitivity of the new detection system with concave mirror to that without concave mirror but the other conditions were kept the same. Two tumor markers labeled with FITC were selected for the test, using the simple LEDIF detect system. The results (LOD, 150 nM for L-Leu and L-Val) showed that the detection sensitivity matched with concave mirror reached more 16 times than the detection method without concave mirror.

Laser Controlled 65 Micrometer Long Microrobot Made of Ni‐Ti Shape Memory Alloy
摘要: Background: Although previous research provides insight into the role of neuroinflammation in idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder, the association of this disorder with peripheral blood inflammatory markers remains unclear. Objective: To investigate inflammatory cytokines in plasma samples in patients with idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder and to explore whether these markers are associated with prodromal symptoms of α-synucleinopathies. Methods: We collected plasma from patients with polysomnographically confirmed idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder without parkinsonism or dementia (n = 54) and from healthy controls (n = 56). The interleukin-1β, interleukin-2, interleukin-6, interleukin-10, and tumor necrosis factor-α were measured. The idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder patients underwent sleep, motor, cognitive, olfactory, and autonomic testing. Results: The anti-inflammatory cytokine, interleukin-10, levels in the idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder group were significantly upregulated compared to the control group (P = 0.022), but this difference did not withstand Bonferroni correction. The other proinflammatory cytokine levels did not differ between the groups. No correlation was found between the cytokine levels and any clinical variable. Conclusions: Our data do not provide evidence supporting the role of peripheral inflammation in idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder. However, considering the limited statistical power because of the small sample size, further large-scale longitudinal studies with a broader spectrum of cytokines are needed to clarify this issue.

摘要: One of the most critical issues that arises when controlling a robot is the necessity to locate itself in the environment. Ranging from industrial processes applications to outdoor mobile robots, landmarks are used to such purpose: by recognizing them, the robots are able to know where they are with the aid of computer vision. Fiducial markers are the cheapest and one of the most common solutions to this issue: 2D planar patterns that embed some information that can be identified using artificial vision techniques. Many different typologies of markers as well as image processing algorithms are being implemented nowadays, using C++ / Python / MATLAB? libraries and ROS as middleware. In this work we have evaluated the robustness of various fiducial marker typologies, documenting the main technical aspects of the used implementations and commenting how each algorithm operates. Aggregated results are presented and discussed, evaluating the different implementations tested.

Infrared Low-Level Laser Therapy (Photobiomodulation Therapy) before Intense Progressive Running Test of High-Level Soccer Players: Effects on Functional, Muscle Damage, Inflammatory, and Oxidative Stress Markers—A Randomized Controlled Trial
摘要: The effects of preexercise photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) to enhance performance, accelerate recovery, and attenuate exercise-induced oxidative stress were still not fully investigated, especially in high-level athletes. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of PBMT (using infrared low-level laser therapy) applied before a progressive running test on functional aspects, muscle damage, and inflammatory and oxidative stress markers in high-level soccer players. A randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial was performed. Twenty-two high-level male soccer players from the same team were recruited and treated with active PBMT and placebo. The order of interventions was randomized. Immediately after the application of active PBMT or placebo, the volunteers performed a standardized high-intensity progressive running test (ergospirometry test) until exhaustion. We analyzed rates of oxygen uptake (VO2 max), time until exhaustion, and aerobic and anaerobic threshold during the intense progressive running test. Creatine kinase (CK) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities, levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1-β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), levels of thiobarbituric acid (TBARS) and carbonylated proteins, and catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were measured before and five minutes after the end of the test. PBMT increased the VO2 max (both relative and absolute values—p < 0:0467 and p < 0:0013, respectively), time until exhaustion (p < 0:0043), time (p < 0:0007) and volume (p < 0:0355) in which anaerobic threshold happened, and volume in which aerobic threshold happened (p < 0:0068). Moreover, PBMT decreased CK (p < 0:0001) and LDH (p < 0:0001) activities. Regarding the cytokines, PBMT decreased only IL-6 (p < 0:0001). Finally, PBMT decreased TBARS (p < 0:0001) and carbonylated protein levels (p < 0:01) and increased SOD (p < 0:0001)and CAT (p < 0:0001) activities. The findings of this study demonstrate that preexercise PBMT acts on different functional aspects and biochemical markers. Moreover, preexercise PBMT seems to play an important antioxidant effect, decreasing exercise-induced oxidative stress and consequently enhancing athletic performance and improving postexercise recovery. This trial is registered with Clinicaltrials.gov NCT03803956.

Fluorescent Nanosensors Based on Colloidal Quantum Dots for the Determination of Reduced Glutathione
摘要: A ? uorescent nanosensor based on colloidal quantum dots CdSe/ZnS modi? ed with mercaptoacetic acid to determine reduced glutathione, a non-protein compound that plays an important role in protection against oxidative stress, is developed. Sample preparation protocols that allow determination of reduced glutathione in a wide range of concentrations are presented. Dependence of the ? uorescence intensity of the system on the incubation time for a number of concentrations of reduced glutathione was measured. The possibility of using the proposed nanosensor for reliable and sensitive determination of reduced glutathione in the concentration range from 10 to 1000 μM is con? rmed. The results can be used for quantitative determination of reduced glutathione in physiological media, which is of considerable interest for medical diagnostics.

摘要: In this paper, we proposed a novel and practical solution for the real-time indoor localization of autonomous driving in parking lots. High-level landmarks, the parking slots, are extracted and enriched with labels to avoid the aliasing of low-level visual features. We then proposed a robust method for detecting incorrect data associations between parking slots and further extended the optimization framework by dynamically eliminating suboptimal data associations. Visual fiducial markers are introduced to improve the overall precision. As a result, a semantic map of the parking lot can be established fully automatically and robustly. We experimented the performance of real-time localization based on the map using our autonomous driving platform TiEV, and the average accuracy of 0.3m track tracing can be achieved at a speed of 10kph.
