  • Investigations on synthesis, growth and physicochemical properties of semi-organic nonlinear optical crystal: l-arginine sodium nitrate

    摘要: Single crystals of l-arginine sodium nitrate semiorganic nonlinear optical crystal were grown by slow evaporation process at room temperature. The single crystal X-ray diffraction study confirms that the unit cell parameters of the grown l-arginine sodium nitrate crystal. Fourier transform infrared spectrum analysis was used to identify the functional groups of the grown crystal. The thermal stability of the l-arginine sodium nitrate was determined using thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis. The linear optical property of LARSN crystal has been studied using Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy studies in the wavelength range 200–800 nm. The relative second harmonic efficiency of the l-arginine sodium nitrate compound is found to be 0.49 times that of Potassium Di-hydrogen phosphate. The mechanical property of the grown crystals was determined by Vicker’s micro hardness test and it proved the hard nature of the grown crystal. Dielectric study reveals that both dielectric constant and dielectric loss decreases with increase in frequency.

  • Parametric Nonlinear Silicon-Based Photonicsv

    摘要: Integrated silicon photonics is revolutionizing the field of optical communications as hybrid photonic/electronic integrated circuits made from this semiconductor material can seamlessly process signals spanning both the optical and electrical domains. The enormous bandwidth afforded by optical signaling enables extremely high aggregate data-rate communication signals. Correspondingly, signal processing devices must employ new mechanisms to keep up with the ever increasing need for greater capacity in communications. To this end, parametric nonlinear optical interactions in silicon-based materials provide a route toward processing and handling signal bandwidths well beyond a THz. These integrated silicon-based photonic structures also benefit from high optical confinement, large nonlinear optical responses, and long interaction lengths, making them highly suitable for power-efficient parametric nonlinear optical interactions. In particular, the parametric nonlinear optical interaction of four-wave mixing (FWM) in silicon-based photonic devices has enabled a wealth of devices for next-generation information handling applications including communications, all-optical computing, metrology, and security, which will be highlighted in this review.

  • Nonlinear optical microscopy for label-freely detecting gastric intestinal metaplasia

    摘要: Intestinal metaplasia has been widely considered as a precursor of gastric cancer. As a result, early detection and accurate diagnosis will have important clinical significance. Therefore, nonlinear optical microscopy using two-photon excited fluorescence combined with second harmonic generation was used for investigating gastric mucosal intestinal metaplasia in this work. The imaging results showed that this microscope has the ability to directly identify this lesion from normal tissues in the absence of labels, and to further differentiate the subtyping of intestinal metaplasia. Furthermore, nuclear areas from normal gastric mucosa and intestinal metaplasia subtypes were measured, respectively, to show the cell changes while gastric mucosa developed from normal to intestinal metaplasia. This study may provide an approach for further researching these diseases in the future, and highlights the potential of nonlinear optical microscopy as a diagnostic tool for label-free identification of gastric intestinal metaplasia.

  • NBO, nonlinear optical and thermodynamic properties of 10-Acetyl-10H-phenothiazine 5-oxide

    摘要: In this paper, natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis, nonlinear optical and the thermodynamic properties of 10-Acetyl-10H-phenothiazine 5-oxide have been analyzed by employing density functional theory level employing 6-311++G(d,p) basis set. NBO analysis reveals that the intra- intermolecular charge transfer occurs within the molecule leading to the stabilization. The predicted nonlinear optical properties (NLO) like; polarizability and first hyperpolarizabiliy support that the molecule could attract the interests for future investigation.

  • Novel chromophore with tricyanocyclopentenone electronic acceptor and its application in organic EO polymers

    摘要: Novel organic second nonlinear optical chromophore GL-1 based on tricyanocyclopentenone (TCNP) electronic acceptor group were designed and synthesized in this paper. The structure of chromophore GL-1 is characterized by mass spectrum and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Chromophore FTC based on traditional tricyanofuran (TCF) electronic acceptor was also prepared as the contrast. Their delocalized energy levels were estimated by UV–Vis spectra. Their thermal properties were studied by thermogravimetric analysis. Obviously, chromophore GL-1 showed lower delocalized energy levels and higher thermal decomposition temperature (just about 286 °C). Electro-optics polymers prepared based on chromophore GL-1 showed the largest SHG coefficients of about 119 pm/V, which was about two times higher than chromophore FTC (about 68 pm/V). These advantages of chromophore GL-1 are attributed to the improvement of first order hyperpolarizability and the attenuatation of intermolecular dipole interaction by the introduction of tricyanocyclopentenone electronic acceptor. And in another word, tricyanocyclopentenone electronic acceptor may be a promising way to drastically change the nonlinear optical features of the titled compounds and show a direction of designing new electron acceptor in the field of nonlinear optical materials.

  • Structural, vibrational and optical properties of an organic-inorganic hybrid crystal of benzyl 4-aminopyridinium tetrabromocadmate(II) based on DFT calculations

    摘要: An organic-inorganic hybrid crystal, [Bz-4-NH2Py]2[CdBr4](1) (Bz-4-NH2Py = 1-benzyl-4'-aminopyridinium), was grown successfully by slow evaporation solution growth method at room temperature and characterized. In tetrachlorocadmate(II) dianion, the CdII ion is coordinated by four Br atoms in a close to tetrahedral geometry. The crystal packing is stabilized by C-H···Br hydrogen bonds between [Bz-4-NH2Py]+ cations and [CdBr4]2- anion forming a three-dimensional network. Powder XRD diffraction study confirms the crystalline nature of the title compound. Thermal stability and the gaseous products of decomposition at 362 oC were examined by TG-DTA-MS technique. The Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and Raman spectra were recorded and analyzed with the aid of DFT calculations in order to make a suitable assignment of the observed bands. UV-vis spectral analysis was used to determine the band gap energy, and the nonlinear optical (NLO) effect of the compound was predicted using DFT. Further, the title compound exhibits strong fluorescence emission at 394, 329 and 467 nm in the solid at room temperature.

  • Impact of ligand rotation: Synthesis, crystal structures and third-order nonlinear optical properties of Mn(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes with 5?diethylamino?2?((4?(phenyldiazenyl) phenylimino) methyl) phenol

    摘要: Three new coordination compounds containing 5?diethylamino?2?((4?(phenyldiazenyl) phenylimino) methyl) phenol ligand have been synthesized and fully characterized. Single crystal structure showed that the ligand shows multiple coordination mode and the phenyl group next to azo group could rotate during the coordination process. In Mn (HDAPPP)2Cl2·CH3CN (1), the HDAPPP behaved as a mono ligand because of the N of the imine group is protonated in the keto form and does not participate in coordination. While the Cu(DAPPP)2 (2) and Ni(DAPPP)2 (3) are classic complexes containing azo-Schiff base ligand. The fluorescence emission peaks of compounds indicated that the fluorescence of the compounds are mainly derived from the π-π* charge transition of the ligand and affected by the rotation of ligand. The UV–Vis data revealed that the compound 1–3 with the maximum absorption peak at 425 nm, 440 nm and 338 nm, respectively. This clearly confirmed that the compound 1 is mainly based on the keto configuration while the compound 3 is mainly based on the enol configuration. Z-scan experiments showed that all compounds exhibited reverse saturable absorption effect and self-defocusing effect for nonlinear optical materials. The nonlinear absorption coefficients (β) of compound 1–3 are evaluated to be 6 × 10?11 m·W?1, 4.4 × 10?11 m·W?1, and 1.7 × 10?11 m·W?1 respectively, and the nonlinear refraction coefficients (n2) are ?1.4 × 10?17 m2·W?1, ?1.6 × 10?17 m2·W?1, ?7.0 × 10?18 m2·W?1 respectively. The nonlinear optical property of compound 1 and 2 are better than compound 3, which are influenced by ligand rotation after coordination.

  • Experimental study on Nonlinear?Optical property of Ag4P2Se6

    摘要: Mid?infrared (MIR) nonlinear optical (NLO) material is critical to laser frequency?conversion technology. Although the main commercial MIR NLO crystals (AgGaS2 AgGaSe2 and ZnGeP2) are practically used, they still have some intrinsic drawbacks, so that it is of great scientific significance to discover new materials with good MIR NLO performances. Among the main systems of chalcogenides to explore MIR NLO crystals, metal thiophosphates and selenophosphates are competitive for their structural diversities and strong covalent P?Q bonds. Here, Ag4P2Se6 (P212121) was selected to evaluate the second(cid:1144)order harmonic generation (SHG) property. As a result, the SHG response with phase?matching ability is about 0.5 times that of AgGaS2 at 2.05 μm in the particle range of 210 ?270 μm, and the laser damage threshold (LDT) is larger than that of AgGaS2. Remarkably, this compound is of low melt temperature of 642 oC with a congruent melting character, also possesses excellent chemical stability, facilitating its further crystal growth and fabrication.

  • Third order nonlinear optical properties of DNA-based biopolymers thin films doped with selected natural chromophores

    摘要: The results of linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) studies on thin films of DNA based biopolymers, doped with natural chromophores extracts of sweet paprika, turmeric as well as curry leaves are reported and discussed. The thin films were obtained by spin coating on glass substrates. The spectroscopy measurements show that the extracts absorb in visible, at different wavelengths, revealing an important π electron conjugation. The nonlinear optical measurements, done by the optical third harmonic generation technique at 1064.2 nm fundamental wavelength, show that the fast, electronic origin third order NLO susceptibility of natural extracts, is large and comparable or higher than that measured for synthetic counterparts. The largest one in this study was found for the curry leaves extract: (396.9 ± 40) ×10?14 esu.

  • Four-Dimensional Coherent Spectroscopy of Complex Molecular Systems in Solution

    摘要: An understanding of microscopic interactions in solution is of fundamental importance in chemistry. However, the structure and dynamics of complex systems in the condensed phase, especially far from thermal equilibrium, are masked by broad and often featureless absorption and emission spectra. Nonlinear optical spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful and general approach to disentangling congested spectra by spreading information across multiple dimensions, revealing features oftentimes hidden in lower-order projections. As the dimensionality of the measurement increases, the better the microscopic interactions are revealed as spectral bands disperse in the large hyper-spectral volume. This capability, however, comes at a steep price as the signal decreases exponentially at higher orders of optical response and added experimental complexity increases noise. Here, we discuss a four-dimensional coherent spectroscopy known as Gradient Assisted Multidimensional Electronic–Raman Spectroscopy (GAMERS) that reveals coupling between electronic and vibrational transitions in complex, condensed phase systems ranging from organic molecules to semiconductor nanocrystals. We reveal that high-resolution spectra may be extracted from these systems even in the presence of severe spectral broadening, both homogeneous and inhomogeneous in origin. The theoretical and experimental underpinnings of this method are discussed. Increasingly, higher-order and higher-dimensionality spectroscopies like GAMERS are needed to understand the microscopic interactions that connect structure to dynamics to function.
