  • Exploring the optical beam shifts in monolayers of transition metal dichalcogenides using Gaussian beams

    摘要: We have extensively studied Goos-H?nchen (GH) and Imbert-Fedorov (IF) shifts for reflection of a fundamental Gaussian beam using transfer matrix method. By considering a dielectric slab coated with monolayer of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC), we theoretically investigate the potential role of four different TMDC monolayers (WS2, WSe2, MoS2, and MoSe2) on the spatial and angular GH and IF shifts for reflection of the light beam that has not been explored previously. We find the nature of GH and IF shifts to be explicitly dependent on the mode of polarization of light beam. In case of partial reflection of light, both GH and IF shifts acquire moderate magnitude. In contrary, giant negative spatial GH shifts are examined for total internal reflection. Our analysis revealed that the typical characteristics of GH and IF shifts are significantly affected by the complex surface conductivity of TMDC monolayers and consequently the shifts are found to differ for different TMDC monolayers. We also present a comparison of the beam shifts for the monolayer TMDC-coated surfaces with the corresponding bulk TMDCs. Finally, we address the most significant question of how the GH and IF shifts depend upon the wavelengths of incident light, in particular, establishing the role of optical conductivity in beam shifts.

  • Investigations on the quantum chemical studies and physico-chemical properties of an opto-electronic material 1-Allyl-2-Aminopyridine-1-ium bromide

    摘要: In the present work, the dual approach of quantum chemical studies and experimental characterizations of the title compound 1-Allyl-2-Aminopyridine-1-ium bromide (1A2APB) were carried out for the first time. The molecular geometry of 1A2APB was optimized by density functional theory (DFT) using B3LYP/6-311++G (d,p) basis set. The optimized geometric structural parameters were compared with the experimental findings and discussed. The dipole moment (μ) and first hyperpolarizability (β) were calculated to predict the NLO behavior. The frontier molecular orbital (FMO), molecular electrostatic potential (MESP), Mulliken atomic charge and thermodynamic properties were investigated to get a better insight of the molecular properties. Stability of the compound arising from hyper-conjugative interactions, intra-molecule re-hybridization and charge delocalization within the molecule were analyzed using NBO analysis. Further, 1A2APB was synthesized and good quality single crystals were grown by slow evaporation technique. Studies such as microanalysis and powder XRD were performed to ascertain material composition and phase respectively. The various characteristic functional groups were identified through FT-IR spectroscopic analyses. The NLO efficiency was measured to be about greater than 5 times that of standard KDP. Thermal behaviors were explored by the simultaneous TG/DTA-DSC thermograms. The UV–Vis–NIR spectral data and fluorescence spectrum were recorded to explore the optical transmission and emission properties respectively. The dielectric properties were evaluated as a function of frequency at various temperatures. The photoconducting nature was analyzed through photoconductivity measurement. The Vicker’s microhardness test was performed at room temperature from which the mechanical stability was analyzed through the classical Meyer’s relation.

  • Construction of a Noncentrosymmetric Luminescent Coordination Polymer from [BaL <sub/>3</sub> ] Unit (L = Pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate Acid) and Li(I) Ion

    摘要: This work presents the synthesis, crystal structure and properties of a novel noncentrosymmetric (NCS) coordination polymer (CP), namely, (Me2NH2)3[BaLi(2,6-PyDC)3(H2O)] (1) (2,6-PyDC = pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate acid), which represents the first example of BaLi-CPs with 2,6-PyDC ligand. Single-crystal X-ray structural analysis reveals that the compound features a two-dimensional (2D) layered structure. The simplified structure of each layer belongs to the hcb topology. The second harmonic generation (SHG) response of 1 is about 0.5 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP) marker. What is more, 1 emits bright blue light upon the excitation of 365 nm UV light with the quantum yield (QY, Φ) of 1.63%. The successful construction of this compound convinces the feasibility of constructing NCS CPs via the combination of [BaL3] unit and Li(I) ion.

  • Scattering of electromagnetic waves by a perfect electromagnetic conductor half-screen

    摘要: The diffraction of plane electromagnetic waves by a perfect electromagnetic conductor half-screen is investigated. The total geometrical optics fields are obtained by using the boundary conditions of a perfect electromagnetic conductor surface. A general relation is defined for the scattered fields in terms of waves by soft and hard surfaces. The total scattered field is derived by using this relation. Some numerical simulations are also given.

  • Monodimensional enlargement of resolved field of view in line scan cameras by a single doubly symmetric mirror

    摘要: The geometry of the sensed and thus optically relevant area in the image plane of line scan cameras suggests that improvement of the overall system is possible, by joint design of optics and electronics. By a technique named Linear Fovea (LF) proposed in this paper, the optical contrast along the Line-of-Interest (LOI) in the image plane i.e. the location of the opto-electronic sensor, is optimized at the expense of contrast elsewhere. In the LF method, employing a single doubly symmetric surface, the resolved ?eld of view (RFOV) as the merit function, is maximized, by ?nding appropriate Zernike coe?cients describing that surface. The technique is applied on a proof-of-concept single mirror telescope and both MTF analysis and standard target imaging simulation are performed. Results show that by this technique, the RFOV can be doubled, or alternatively the illumination can be increased 2.5 times keeping RFOV unchanged. Furthermore, a rather uniform response is kept along the LOI.

  • Stimuli responsive diffraction gratings in soft-composite materials

    摘要: Diffraction gratings (DGs) are unique optical components with the capability to control and address a travelling light wave because of their micro/nanoscale periodicity. Nowadays, DGs are used in several sophisticated and high-tech applications such as spectrometers, memories, as well as in bioengineering and telecommunications. Advanced micro and nano fabrication processes enable the realization of DGs with excellent morphological and optical properties. However, realizing DGs with on-demand optical parameters is still a challenge because of the absence of reliable and cost-effective smart materials. Herein, we discuss the unique and compelling opportunities obtained by bridging materials with intrinsic flexibility (soft polymers) and re-configurability (liquid crystals (LCs)), as well as emerging fabrication procedures. Further, we present several stimuli responsive DGs used in various research fields such as sensing, biotechnology and solar energy. Lastly, in the light of flexible and reconfigurable DGs applications, we report different examples of light responsive and electro-activated, LCs based, DGs.

  • Field-squeeze operators via coherent population trapping

    摘要: We present a scheme to generate unitarily two-mode and four-mode ?eld squeezing in optical cavities with the near-resonantly dressed three-level atoms in the (cid:2) con?guration. The dressing ?elds open two coherent population trapping (CPT) windows, within which the atoms stay predominantly in the dark state and yield strong nonlinearities for both the dressing ?elds themselves and the other applied ?elds. The two-mode squeeze operator is separated from degrees of freedom of atoms in a common CPT window, and the multimode squeeze operator is segregated in different CPT windows. The resulting two-mode and multimode interaction strengths are at least one order higher than in the previous dispersive schemes, where all ?elds are far off resonant with the atoms. The present near-resonant scheme is robust to spontaneous emission since atoms are nearly trapped in a long-lived superposition state.

    摘要: Foveated imaging is of great interest for Augmented and Virtual Reality applications. The resolution losses off-axis simulated in foveated imaging are modelled using cone density on the retina. This article reviews the other factors limiting the resolution off-axis in AR/VR, in particular the impact of the eye lens. Several off-axis resolution simulations are proposed and compared in order to provide some theoretical compression ratios for 4K and 8K display systems. A model taking into account both the cone density across the retina and the optical performance of the eye lens is proposed and evaluated. The variability and challenges of modelling the human eye resolution losses are also discussed, in particular in the case of age-dependence.

  • Synthesis, crystal structures, second harmonic generation response and temperature phase transitions of two noncentrosymmetric Cu(II)-hybrid halides compounds: [(R)-C7H16N2][CuX4] (X?= Cl or Br)

    摘要: (R)-(+)-3-aminoquinuclidine was used in the synthesis of [(R)-C7H16N2][CuCl4] (1) and [(R)-C7H16N2][CuBr4] (2), which both contain similar [CuX4]2- anions (X = Cl or Br). The structures of the two compounds were determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The use of enantiomerically pure sources of (R)-C7H14N2 forces crystallographic noncentrosymmetry. These materials crystallize in the chiral space group P212121 (No. 19), which exhibits the enantiomorphic crystal class 222 (D2). In the molecular arrangement, the [CuX4]2- anions are linked to the organic cations through N-H...X and C-H...X hydrogen bonds to form cation-anion-cation molecular units, which are held together by means of offset face-to-face interactions giving a three-dimensional network. Thermal stability of the crystals was ascertained by TG measurement. Compounds (1) and (2) display several phases transition with higher transition temperature at T = 100°C. The Kurtz and Perry powder method using Nd:YAG laser shows that their second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiencies are about 0.81 and 0.82 times as large as that of KH2PO4 (KDP), respectively. Such a chiral hybrid metal halides skeleton could provide a new platform for future engineering in the areas including information storage, light modulators and optoelectronic functionalities.

  • Conditions for Parametric and Free-Carrier Oscillation in Silicon Ring Cavities

    摘要: We model optical parametric oscillation in ring cavities with two-photon absorption, focusing on silicon at 1.55 μm. Oscillation is possible if free-carrier absorption can be mitigated; this can be achieved using carrier sweep-out in a reverse-biased p-i-n junction to reduce the carrier lifetime. By varying the pump power, detuning, and reverse-bias voltage, it is possible to generate frequency combs in cavities with both normal and anomalous dispersion at a wide range of wavelengths including 1.55 μm. Furthermore, a free-carrier self-pulsing instability leads to rich dynamics when the carrier lifetime is sufficiently long.
