A Method for Expansion of Z-Directional Measurement Range in a Mode-Locked Femtosecond Laser Chromatic Confocal Probe
摘要: A method is proposed to expand the Z-directional measurement range of a fiber-based dual-detector chromatic confocal probe with a mode-locked femtosecond laser source. In the dual-detector chromatic confocal probe, the Z-directional displacement of a measurement target is derived from the peak wavelength in the normalized intensity ratio from the two light intensities obtained by the two identical fiber detectors. In this paper, a new method utilizing the main-lobe and side-lobes of axial responses acquired from both the normalized intensity ratio Ia and the invert normalized intensity ratio In, which is the inverse of Ia, is proposed to obtain the seamless relationship between the peak wavelength and the Z-directional displacement of a measurement target. Theoretical calculations and experimental investigation are carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed measurement range expansion method.

100?GHz free spectral range-tunable multi-wavelength fiber laser using single–multi–single mode fiber interferometer
摘要: Six single–multi–single (SMS) mode fiber-based Mach–Zehnder Interferometers (MZI) with different spooling radii are demonstrated as spatial mode filtering elements for multi-wavelength laser generation. Free spectral range (FSR) tuning of the multi-wavelength output generated is realized by alternating between the six MZIs, which have different macro-bending losses. Additional FSR tuning is also realized by changing the spooling radius of the two-mode step index fiber section within the MZI setups from 80 mm to 30 mm, giving an FSR tuning range of 0.89–0.99 nm. All generated multi-wavelength outputs show high stability over a test period of 100 min. The proposed multi-wavelength lasers are highly suitable for various microwave photonics applications the field of such as microwave signal source generation and microwave photonic filtering.

Characterization of a double Time-Of-Flight detector system for accurate velocity measurement in a storage ring using laser beams
摘要: The Isochronous Mass Spectrometry (IMS) is a powerful tool for mass measurements of exotic nuclei with half-lives as short as several tens of micro-seconds in storage rings. In order to improve the mass resolving power while preserving the acceptance of the storage ring, the IMS with two Time-Of-Flight (TOF) detectors has been implemented at the storage ring CSRe in Lanzhou, China. Additional velocity information beside the revolution time in the ring can be obtained for each of the stored ions by using the double TOF detector system. In this paper, we introduced a new method of using a 658 nm laser range finder and a short-pulsed ultra-violet laser to directly measure the distance and time delay difference between the two TOF detectors which were installed inside the 10?11 mbar vacuum chambers. The results showed that the distance between the two ultra-thin carbon foils of the two TOF detectors was ranging from 18032.5 mm to 18035.0 mm over a measurable area of 20×20 mm2. Given the measured distance, the time delay difference which comes with signal cable length difference between the two TOF detectors was measured to be ??????????????1?2 = 99(26) ps. The new method has enabled us to use the speed of light in vacuum to calibrate the velocity of stored ions in the ring. The velocity resolution of the current double TOF detector system at CSRe was deduced to be ??(??)∕?? = 4.4 × 10?4 for laser light, mainly limited by the time resolution of the TOF detectors.

摘要: This paper presents an estimate of underwater optical communication (UWOC) range, using PIN and avalanche photodetectors (APDs). In this simulation-based study, the maximum range while transmitting high-quality video at 6Mbps speed is estimated as 520m in Pure Sea water, 65m in Clear Ocean and 44m in Coastal waters, when using a 100mW laser and APD. The channel here is modeled to include the effect of attenuation and noise. This work quantifies the benefits of using an adaptive system where the wavelength (blue, blue-green and green) of transmission and modulation scheme is changed based on water transmission. Wavelength adaptation according to varying water transmission was found to provide 16 to 40dB advantage in SNR, compared to a system with fixed wavelength, in different waters. A recommendation for wavelength adaptable transmitter design is made based on this. This study assumes the current state of the art in commercially available components.

Direct laser writing of birefringent photonic crystals for the infrared spectral range
摘要: Infrared optical photonic crystals fabricated using direct laser writing, which is based on the two-photon polymerization of suitable monomers, have received substantial interest since the emergence of this process. Two-photon polymerization could be a disruptive technology for the fabrication of all-dielectric photonic crystals in the infrared spectral range, as it allows the synthesis of large scale arrays of uniform structures with arbitrary geometries and arrangements. However, all-dielectric photonic crystals that provide birefringent optical responses in the infrared spectral range have not yet been demonstrated using direct laser writing techniques. Here, the authors explore the form birefringence observed in photonic crystals composed of arrays of subwavelength-sized slanted polymer microwires. The photonic crystals investigated here were fabricated in a single fabrication step using direct laser writing of an infrared transparent photoresist (IP-Dip). A strong contrast of the cross-polarized re?ectance of photonic crystals as a function of the in-plane orientation is observed in the mid-infrared spectral range at λ ≈ 6:5 μm. This observation is indicative of an anisotropic optical behavior. Finite element based techniques corroborate the experimentally observed responses qualitatively.

Linear complex susceptibility of long-range interacting dipoles with thermal agitation and weak external ac fields
摘要: An analytical formula for the linear complex susceptibility of dipolar assemblies subjected to thermal agitation, long-range interactions, and an externally applied uniform sinusoidal field of weak amplitude is derived using the forced rotational diffusion equation of Cugliandolo et al. [Phys. Rev. E 91, 032139 (2015)] in the virial approximation. If the Kirkwood correlation factor of the dipolar assembly gK exceeds unity, a thermally activated process arising from the interaction-specific component arises, while for gK < 1 the susceptibility spectrum normalized by its static value is practically unaltered with respect to that of the ideal gas phase.

Identifying Mangrove Species Using Field Close-Range Snapshot Hyperspectral Imaging and Machine-Learning Techniques
摘要: Investigating mangrove species composition is a basic and important topic in wetland management and conservation. This study aims to explore the potential of close-range hyperspectral imaging with a snapshot hyperspectral sensor for identifying mangrove species under field conditions. Specifically, we assessed the data pre-processing and transformation, waveband selection and machine-learning techniques to develop an optimal classification scheme for eight mangrove species in Qi’ao Island of Zhuhai, Guangdong, China. After data pre-processing and transformation, five spectral datasets, which included the reflectance spectra R and its first-order derivative d(R), the logarithm of the reflectance spectra log(R) and its first-order derivative d[log(R)], and hyperspectral vegetation indices (VIs), were used as the input data for each classifier. Consequently, three waveband selection methods, including the stepwise discriminant analysis (SDA), correlation-based feature selection (CFS), and successive projections algorithm (SPA) were used to reduce dimensionality and select the effective wavebands for identifying mangrove species. Furthermore, we evaluated the performance of mangrove species classification using four classifiers, including linear discriminant analysis (LDA), k-nearest neighbor (KNN), random forest (RF), and support vector machine (SVM). Application of the four considered classifiers on the reflectance spectra of all wavebands yielded overall classification accuracies of the eight mangrove species higher than 80%, with SVM having the highest accuracy of 93.54% (Kappa = 0.9256). Using the selected wavebands derived from SPA, the accuracy of SVM reached 93.13% (Kappa = 0.9208). The addition of hyperspectral VIs and d[log(R)] spectral datasets further improves the accuracies to 93.54% (Kappa = 0.9253) and 96.46% (Kappa = 0.9591), respectively. These results suggest that it is highly effective to apply field close-range snapshot hyperspectral images and machine-learning classifiers to classify mangrove species.

Variable-Temperature Resonance Raman Studies to Probe Interchain Ordering for Semiconducting Conjugated Polymers with Different Chain Curvature
摘要: The morphology and crystallinity of the polymers used to fabricate bulk heterojuction (BHJ) solar cells significantly influences the efficiency of the cells. We have used variable-temperature (VT) spectroscopy techniques, namely VT emission and VT resonance Raman spectroscopy (VT-RRS), to examine how the backbone linearity of a conducting polymer affects its electronic response to temperature and variations in solution behavior. We have studied two types of donor–acceptor polymers used in BHJ cells with differing backbone structures; they are poly-{5,6-bis(tetradecyloxy)-4-(thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c]-1,2,5-thiadiazole} (PTBT) which has a curved and poly-{5,6-bis(tetradecyloxy)-4-(thieno[3,2-b]-thiophen-2-yl)benzo[c]-1,2,5-thiadiazole} (PTTBT) which has a linear chain structure. Time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations and resonance Raman spectra (RRS) of PTTBT revealed the presence of three electronic transitions, with character that varies between p to p*, mixed p to p*/charge transfer and pure charge transfer in nature. Emission spectra of PTTBT showed spectral changes at 650 and 710 nm with varied temperature ((cid:2)10 to 60 8C). Variable-temperature RRS was measured in resonance with the lowest and highest energy electronic transitions. The changes were interpreted using two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS) analysis. PTTBT showed gradual shifts to lower wavenumbers of modes at around 1425, 1450 and 1500 cm(cid:2)1. For PTBT larger and more rapid spectral changes are observed at 1440 and 1460 cm(cid:2)1 consistent with greater variation in the electronic nature upon heating. Further study into the influence of polymer linearity on crystallinity and long range order was carried out using low-frequency Raman (LFR) to examine drop cast films under a variety of different conditions. LFR spectra showed that PTTBT has a band at 73 cm(cid:2)1. This is observed under a variety of film-forming conditions. PTBT does not show distinct low frequency modes, consistent with its low crystallinity.

Improved analytical model of phase-locking dynamics in unlocked-driven optoelectronic oscillators under RF injection locking
摘要: In this paper, we propose an improved closed form large injection perturbation analytical model for accurately studying the phase-locking dynamics and frequency pulling phenomenon in optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) for radio frequency (RF) signal injection. We provide formulas for the lock-range, and the beat frequency, which are general and accurate in estimating the degree of phase perturbation in unlocked-driven OEO under weak as well as strong injection signal level. We also give closed form expressions for the spectral components of the unlocked-driven oscillator. It is shown that our model is capable of predicting the phase-locking and estimating the frequency pulling of RF driven OEO under weak and strong injection signal level. The accuracy of the proposed model is verified by the simulations.

An image segmentation method of a modified SPCNN based on human visual system in medical images
摘要: An image segmentation method of a modified simplified pulse-coupled neural network (MSPCNN) based on human visual system (HVS) is proposed for medical images. The method successfully determines the stimulus input of the MSPCNN according to the characteristics of PCNN and HVS. In order to accomplish the goal, we attempt to deduce the sub-intensity range of central neurons firing by introducing neighboring firing matrix Q and calculating intensity distribution range based on a new MSPCNN(NMSPCNN), and then reveal the way how sub-intensity range parameter Sint generates the stimulus input Sioij closer to HVS. Besides, we try to substitute the above stimulus input into the MSPCNN to extract more suitable lesions for medical images. In contrast to prevalent PCNN models, the MSPCNN has higher segmentation accuracy rates and lower computational complexity because of the parameter setting method. Finally, the proposed method comparing with the state-of-the-art methods has a better performance, presenting the overall metric OEM with MIAS of 0.8784, DDSM of 0.8606 and gallstones of 0.8585.
