  • Ultra-low-distortion optical system design based on tolerance sensitivity optimization

    摘要: This study theoretically analyzed the relationship between the primary aberrations and tolerances to meet the distortion requirements of an ultra-low-distortion optical system. Theoretical analysis shows that the distortion sensitivities of the optical system are related to the primary aberrations of the optical surfaces. Consequently, a method of optimizing the primary aberrations on the surface of the optical system to reduce the distortion sensitivities of sensitive tolerances is proposed. A distortion sensitivity analysis of manufacturing and assembly tolerance was carried out for the designed ultra-low-distortion and telecentric optical system. The distortion sensitivities of the sensitive tolerances were reduced by optimizing the primary aberrations on the surface of the optical system. A Monte Carlo analysis of the optimized ultra-low-distortion optical system showed that the proposed method has a remarkable effect on the distortion sensitivity optimization of the tolerances.

  • Confining analyte droplets on visible Si pillars for improving reproducibility and sensitivity of SALDI-TOF MS

    摘要: We present a universal method to efficiently improve reproducibility and sensitivity of surface-assisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (SALDI-TOF MS). In this method, the Si pillar array with unique surface wettability is used as substrate for ionizing analyte. The Si pillar is fabricated based on the combination of photolithography and metal-assisted chemical etching, which is of hydrophilic top and hydrophobic bottom and side wall. Based on the surface wettability of the Si pillar, a droplet of an aqueous analyte solution can be confined on the top of the Si pillar. After evaporation of solvent, an analyte deposition spot is formed on the top of Si pillar. The visible size of the Si pillar allows the sample spot to be easily found. Meanwhile, the diameter of the Si pillar is smaller than that of the laser, allowing the observation of all analyte molecules under one laser shot. Therefore, the reproducibility and sensitivity are highly improved with this method, which allows for the quantitative analysis. Furthermore, this method is applicable for different analytes dissolved in water, including amino acids, dye molecules, polypeptides, and polymers. The application of this substrate is demonstrated by analyzing real samples at low concentration. It should be a promising method for sensitive and reproducible detection for SALDI-TOF MS.

  • MultOpt++: a fast regression-based model for the development of compositions with high robustness against scatter of element concentrations

    摘要: Alloys-by-design is a term used to describe new alloy development techniques based on numerical simulation. These approaches are extensively used for nickel-base superalloys to increase the chance of success in alloy development. During alloy production of numerically optimized compositions, unavoidable scattering of the element concentrations occurs. In the present paper, we investigate the effect of this scatter on the alloy properties. In particular, we describe routes to identify alloy compositions by numerical simulations that are more robust than other compositions. In our previously developed alloy development program package MultOpt, we introduced a sensitivity parameter that represents the influence of alloying variations on the final alloy properties in the post-optimization process, because the established sensitivity calculations require high computational effort. In this work, we derive a regression-based model for calculating the sensitivity that only requires one-time calculation of the regression coefficients. The model can be applied to any function with nearly linear behavior within the uncertainty range. The model is then successfully applied to the computational alloys-by-design work flow to facilitate alloy selection using the sensitivity of a composition owing to the inaccuracies in the manufacturing process as an additional minimization goal.

    摘要: Free space optical communication (FSO) provides high data rate by allowing light passed through the atmosphere. It is very effective and efficient technology for wireless communication. This emerging field basically uses invisible beams of light such as ultraviolet, infrared, etc. This work exclusively deals with the designing of hybrid WDM based FSO system using the simulation software Opti-System 7.0 with Minimum-Shift Keying and Differential-phase-shift keying. Further their study has been made as to which modulation techniques provides better means of communication. The normal rain weakening from rain power information which are gathered for a period for six months. The concert of the future system is evaluated in terms of Bit Error Rate, Q-factor, and Receiver Sensitivity are examined with respect to link distance for using rain attenuation 20.5dBm. The transmission wavelength and data rate is 1550nm and 2.5Gbps considered for investigation.

  • Uniform position-sensitivity verification of novel electrochemically-etched panorama mega-size polymer ion image detectors

    摘要: Recent novel applications of mega-size polycarbonate ion image detectors processed in mega-size electrochemical etching chambers have raised concerns on uniform position-sensitivity and consistency in ion energy responses of detectors with different effective areas. In this context, the uniform position-sensitivity, detection efficiency and track diameters of alpha particles over a broad energy range in detectors of different effective areas; i.e. small size (2 × 2 cm2), medium sizes (17 × 17 cm2) and (22.6 × 22.6 cm2), as well as large (33 × 33 cm2) were investigated in order to make them independent of the detector effective area. Alpha particles of 6 different energies from ~0.3 to ~3.0 MeV at a fluence of ~1.0 × 104 alphas·cm?2 were studied applying 50 Hz – HV field conditions. As an example, 36 positions on 6 rows and 6 columns of a 33 × 33 cm2 detector were studied. By having the same efficiency and mean track diameter only at ~0.8 MeV alpha energy in different detector effective areas under the conditions applied, it is concluded that: (1) position-sensitivity, efficiency and alpha energy responses are consistently uniform independent of the detector effective areas for particles with dE/dX)particle ≥ dE/dX)alpha at ~0.8 MeV, but (2) a "voltage compensation factor" (Vc) commensurate with each detector effective area and type of particle should be applied for particles with dE/dX)particle < dE/dX)alpha at ~0.8 MeV for efficient, consistent and uniform ion detection.

  • A nonlinear photonic crystal fiber for liquid sensing application with high birefringence and low confinement loss

    摘要: This paper presents a nonlinear Photonic Crystal Fiber (PCF) based sensor to detect liquid analytes. An extensive analysis has been presented at wide range of wavelength (0.6 μm?1.6 μm) in order to investigate the impact of some design parameters. The numerical investigation has been done using the full vector Finite Element Method (FEM). The proposed model provides an outstanding nonlinear coefficient value with high birefringence, high sensitivity, and low confinement loss. The designed model can be used in sensing and bio-sensing research and their applications.

  • A highly sensitive photocatalytic plastic optic-fiber sensor for selective detection of phenol in aqueous solutions

    摘要: We present a highly sensitive photocatalytic plastic optic-fiber (POF) sensor for the selective detection of phenol in aqueous solutions. To obtain high sensitivity and low limit of detection (LOD) of the sensor, part of the POF cladding was removed and replaced by a Canada balsam doped with GeO2 (CBG); a UV-visible-light-driven photocatalytic material, that is a CdS-sensitized Er3+YAlO3/SiO2/TiO2 (EYST) composite, was coated on the CBG film. To realize highly selective detection of phenol in water, a high phenol permselectivity and pH independence polymer membrane was fixed on the CdS-sensitized EYST-CBG-coated POF. Furthermore, a model was developed to show that the phenol concentration can be determined by measuring the change in transmitted light intensity of the POF sensor and the sensitivity of the sensors can be improved by employing the CdS-sensitized EYST film. The results showed that the proposed photocatalytic POF sensor has a high sensitivity of -0.39 (mg·mL-1)-1 and low LOD of 15 μg·L-1 for the selective detection of phenol in aqueous solutions with pH ranging from 2.0 to 14.0.

  • Sensing Properties of the <I>N</I>,<I>N</I>′-Dipentyl-3,4,9, 10-Perylenedicarboximide Small Molecule for Different Concentrations and Solvents for Sensor Applications

    摘要: In present study, optical parameters based on refractive index of the PTCDI-C5 molecule were calculated using the single oscillator model. Also, significant parameters such as long wavelength refractive index, average oscillator wavelength, lattice dielectric constant, ratio of the carrier concentration to the electron effective mass, carrier concentration and electron effective mass of the PTCDI-C5 molecule were obtained. Then, sensing properties of the PTCDI-C5 molecule for different concentrations and volume percents were investigated and the effects of the concentrations and volume percents on sensing parameters were investigated. Then, the optical properties of the solutions of the PTCDI-C5 semiconductor for different solvents were investigated. Finally, these parameters obtained were discussed for sensor applications and this study was compared with the similar and related studies in the literature. PTCDI-C5 can be used in the fabrication of various sensors due to good soluble, optical, sensitivity and response behaviour.

  • The Effect of Physical and Geometric Parameters on the Surface Plasmon Resonance Response of a Fiber Optic Biosensor: Sensitivity Analysis and Numerical Optimization

    摘要: The study of the influence of optical and geometric parameters on the spectral response of the biosensor is an important step towards the optimization of these parameters. In this study, an improved SPR biosensor with a high resolution is proposed. The present SPR biosensor is based on an optical fiber that takes the place of the prism, compared with the conventional configuration, in order to simplify the detection process, overcome the stresses caused by the massive prism and obtain a reliable and efficient miniature device. The modeling procedure is based on a matrix formalism developed for the optical studies of multilayer media. We have discussed the effect of physical and optical parameters on the resonance curves, from the theoretical analysis of the transmitted power. The obtained results show that the response of the biosensor is highly dependent on these parameters. The optimum values of the length of the sensitive area, the core diameter of the optical fiber, the thickness of the metal layer and the refractive index of external environment have been determined.

  • Design of titanium nitride coated PCF-SPR sensor for liquid sensing applications

    摘要: In this paper, a titanium nitride (TiN) coated highly sensitive PCF-SPR sensor design is proposed and numerically analyzed. Titanium shows the excellent plasmonic properties in the visible and infrared regions and it has low loss and corrosion resistive nature. In this theoretical analysis, we introduce the dependencies of the confinement loss, wavelength sensitivity and amplitude sensitivity to the operating wavelength, thickness of TiN, channel width and refractive index of the measured liquid. For the proposed PCF-SPR sensor design, the high wavelength sensitivity and the refractive index resolution of ~10,000 nm/RIU and ~2.0 × 10?5 has been achieved in the refractive index (RI) range of 1.385–1.40, respectively. Even the proposed design has low amplitude sensitivity, but this proposed sensor will be used in detection of RI of chemicals, biochemical analyte with low concentrations, and highly demand in lab-on-a-chip PCF-SPR sensing probe devices.
