A distributed parametric model of Brinson shape memory alloy based resonant frequency tunable cantilevered PZT energy harvester
摘要: This paper presents, an analytical model of piezoelectric vibration energy harvester consists of Brinson shape memory alloy (SMA) plate which can tune the resonant frequency. As the energy harvester should be tuned to excitation frequency in order to drive the maximum power, the temperature of SMA is varied to tune the natural frequency of the composite beam. In addition to SMA it also consists of piezoelectric layer and substructure layer. Using Euler–Bernoulli beam assumption, the expressions for frequency response of voltage, current and power outputs with temperature are obtained. From parametric study, it is observed that the tuning of natural frequency is 25–26%, for first three modes of vibration in short and open circuit conditions.

Studies on development of NiTi-integrated optical fiber sensor and its life cycle behavior
摘要: Shape memory alloy coating on an optical fiber plays an important role in developing novel active thermal sensors in the field of microelectromechanical systems. In this article, a detailed analysis of NiTi alloy deposited over plastic optical fiber was discussed. A detailed investigation of the morphological, structural, and thermal properties of the NiTi-coated optic fiber was conducted. The uniformity, crystallinity, transformation temperatures, and thermal stability of the coatings were measured using differential scanning calorimetry, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and thermogravimetric analysis, respectively. Also, an electrical actuation setup thermo-mechanical test was conducted through Joule heating in which different voltages at varying loads have been used. The sensor characteristic–based parameters (time response and sensitivity) were also calculated. The article presents a complete analysis of experimental results showing the properties and performances of the plastic optical fiber after coating with shape memory alloy.

Thermo mechanical analyses and characterizations of TiNiCu shape memory alloy structures developed by laser additive manufacturing
摘要: Three di?erent compositions of TiNiCu (Ti50Ni (50?x) Cux (x = 10, 20 and 30)) shape memory alloys (SMA) were developed using an intelligent manufacturing technique of laser additive manufacturing (LAM). Based on a numerical analysis the nature and amount of residual stress ?ow was predicted. By implementing ?nite element method (FEM) with Gaussian distributed volumetric heat source, the deposition process was simulated. The numerical and experimental analyses were at par with each other. The developed samples were subjected to several characterizations in order to determine the best among them. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), were used to study the surface morphology of the samples. The mechanical properties were studied using micro-hardness test and compression test. X-Ray di?raction (XRD) was deployed to investigate the crystalline nature of the samples. The phase transformation ability of the samples were determined by di?erential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The SEM revealed the deposition of all three samples to be homogeneous. The AFM results showed the grain size of TiNiCu10 to be 20.12 nm, the smallest among the samples. The micro-hardness and ultimate strength of TiNiCu10 was found to be 242 VHN and MPa respectively. XRD reveals the presence of three step transformation for TiNiCu20 sample. From the results, LAM process was considered as a successful methodology in developing TiNiCu bulk SMA structures. The properties of laser additive manufactured TiNiCu10 was found to be the best among the developed samples.

Scalable laser powder bed fusion processing of nitinol shape memory alloy
摘要: The authors report on pulsed laser powder bed fusion fabrication of nitinol (NiTi) shape memory materials. The authors ?rst performed single-track laser parameter sweeps to assess melt pool stability and determine energy parameters and hatch spacing for larger builds. The authors then assessed the melt pool chemistry as a function of laser energy density and build plate composition. Brittle intermetallics were found to form at the part/build plate interface for both N200 and Ti-6-4 substrates. The intermetallic formation was reduced by building on a 50Ni–50Ti substrate, but delamination still occurred due to thermal stresses upon cooling. The authors were able to overcome delamination on all substrates and fabricate macroscopic parts by building a lattice support structure, which is both compliant and controls heat transfer into the build plate. This approach will enable scalable fabrication of complex NiTi parts.

摘要: In order to create shape memory alloy (SMA) bimorph microactuators with high-precision features, a novel fabrication process combined with electron beam (E-beam) evaporation, lift-off resist and isotropic XeF2 dry etching method was developed. To examine the effect of E-beam deposition and annealing process on nitinol (NiTi) characteristics, the NiTi thin film samples with different deposition rate and overflow conditions during annealing process were investigated. With the characterizations using scanning electron microscope and x-ray diffraction, the results indicated that low E-beam deposition rate and argon employed annealing process could benefit the formation of NiTi crystalline structure. Besides, SMA bimorph microactuators with high-precision features as small as 5 microns were successfully the thermomechanical performance was experimentally verified and compared with finite element analysis simulation results.

Patterned Si Film Electrode Fabricated on Shape Memory Alloy
摘要: A patterned Si ?lm electrode with lozenge-shaped tiles was fabricated on a Ti–50.5Ni current collector by masking with an expanded metal foil and its electrochemical properties were compared with those of a continuous Si ?lm electrode. Prior to Si ?lm deposition, structural and mechanical properties of the Ti–Ni current collector were investigated by means of DSC, XRD and tensile test. The Ti–Ni current collector was composed of austenitic (B2) phase which can leads to the stress induced martensitic transformation at room temperature. The patterned Si ?lm electrode yielded high initial ef?ciency of 83.4% and good capacity retention of 72.3%, and the enhanced structural stability compared to those of continuous Si ?lm electrode, indicating that the application of patterning process is a promising approach to improve electrochemical properties of Si ?lm electrode.
