The study successfully fabricated homogeneous ultra-small β-PbO QDs with a lateral size of 3.2 ± 0.9 nm and a thickness of 2.5 ± 0.5 nm. The carrier dynamics revealed two decay components with decay times of τ1 = 2.3 ± 0.3 ps and τ2 = 87.9 ± 6.0 ps. The β-PbO QDs demonstrated excellent photoresponse behavior and stability in a PEC-type photodetector, suggesting their potential in practical optoelectronic applications.

The bulk PbO was exfoliated in NMP solvent, sonicated, and centrifuged to obtain β-PbO QDs. The QDs were then characterized for size, thickness, optical properties, and carrier dynamics.

The carrier dynamics were analyzed using a two-component exponential decay model. Photoresponse behaviors were evaluated using a PEC measurement system.
