研究目的
To assess the outcomes of selective laser trabeculoplasty in patients with glaucoma and ocular hypertension at a district general hospital and consider its role in reducing cost and treatment burden when treating these conditions.
研究成果
Selective laser trabeculoplasty is a safe and effective option for managing glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It may represent a cost-effective solution for healthcare providers as compared to pharmacological treatment.
研究不足
The study was descriptive in nature due to the small, unpowered cohort size. Statistical analysis was not performed. The ideal study design would be a randomised controlled trial.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A single centre, retrospective case-note audit was conducted.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
58 eyes from 31 patients with glaucoma or ocular hypertension treated with selective laser trabeculoplasty, with a minimum of 4 months follow-up.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Lightlas 532 laser (Litechnica, Middlesex, UK), Goldmann applanation tonometry for intraocular pressure measurement.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
All procedures were performed by a single ophthalmology consultant. A 360° laser was applied in all cases. Intraocular pressure was measured before and after the procedure.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Descriptive analysis of intraocular pressure reduction, change in number of medications, and cost analysis.
