ZnO NPs were successfully synthesized by pulsed laser ablation of zinc powders suspending in deionized water. The NPs possess a hexagonal wurtzite structure and are of polycrystalline in nature. Annealing in N2 resulted in an improvement in the structure. The ZnO NPs exhibit typical optical absorption and photoluminescence characteristics of ZnO.

1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Pulsed laser ablation of zinc powders suspending in deionized water was used to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. A frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd:YAG laser was employed for ablation.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Metallic zinc powders (>95% in purity) were used as the raw material. The synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized using TEM, HRTEM, Raman backscattering spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, and PL measurements.

A pulsed laser beam from a frequency-doubled Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, a cylindrical convex lens, a magnetic stirrer, a PerkinElmer Lambda 950 ultraviolet-infrared spectrophotometer, an Ocean Optics USB2000 miniature fiber optic spectrometer, a Tecnai G2 F20 S-Twin electron microscope, a Rigaku D/MAX 2550VB/PC X-ray diffractometer, a Jobin Yvon HR-Evolution confocal micro-Raman spectrometer, and a Bruker Vertex 80V spectrometer.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Zinc powders were suspended in deionized water and irradiated by a pulsed laser beam focused by a cylindrical lens. The synthesized ZnO NPs were characterized for their morphology, structure, and optical properties.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
The data were analyzed using TEM, HRTEM, Raman backscattering spectroscopy, FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, and PL measurements.
