研究目的
To explore the principles and practices of producing fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) in a large‐scale quantity, which is the first step towards broad applications of the nanomaterials in biology and nanoscale medicine. Additionally, to explore the topics such as size reduction and spectroscopic characterization of FNDs at the ensemble level with various optical methods.
研究成果
The production of fluorescent nanodiamonds (FNDs) through irradiation, annealing, and subsequent treatments has been demonstrated to be feasible, offering a pathway to their broad applications in biology and nanoscale medicine. The unique properties of FNDs, such as their photostability and biocompatibility, make them promising materials for various applications.
研究不足
The irradiation with high-energy electrons or ions can lead to graphitization on the diamond surface, leading to quenching of the FND fluorescence, especially for smaller FNDs. The process of size reduction by air oxidation is time-consuming and laborious with low yield.
