研究目的
To investigate the relationship between retinal structure and retinal sensitivity comparing data obtained using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and microperimetry in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and healthy patients.
研究成果
Our results obtained with the new MP3 and SD-OCT confirm our previously published data showing a high sensitivity for identifying functional and structural macular abnormalities, respectively. Future studies should investigate the relationships among photoreceptor cell loss, retinal sensitivity, and fixation in patients with RP.
研究不足
A limitation of our study is the lack of genetic information from the patients, which is why we could not study the relationship between mutations and macular complications.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study was an observational case series. Patients with RP were divided into 4 groups based on OCT findings. Healthy subjects were included as a control group. All subjects underwent a complete ophthalmologic examination, including SD-OCT and microperimetry. Pearson correlation test and linear regression analysis were used for statistical analysis.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
49 patients (98 eyes) with RP and 27 healthy subjects were enrolled. Diagnosis of RP was based on clinical findings, including decreased night vision, characteristic funduscopic findings, and reduced or nondetectable rod responses as shown by scotopic electroretinogram (ERG).
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
SD-OCT (Cirrus HD-OCT; Carl Zeiss Meditec, Jena, Germany), microperimetry (MP3; Nidek Technologies).
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
All patients underwent OCT performed with a Cirrus HD-OCT. Microperimetry with the new MP3 was performed in all subjects.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
SPSS v 14.0.1 for Windows was used for statistical analysis. Snellen visual acuity was converted to logarithm of minimal angle of resolution (logMAR) units. Pearson correlation test and linear regression analysis were used.
