研究目的
To compare mean choroidal thickness in patients with adult-onset foveomacular vitelliform dystrophy (AOFVD) and healthy subjects, and to analyze choroidal thickness disease-related changes in relation to the different stages of AOFVD disease and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) features.
研究成果
Choroidal thickness measurements in AOFVD patients can help define disease stage and activity, and understand the natural course of the disease. Increased choroidal thickness associated with subretinal fluid and RPE bumps may indicate RPE alterations and disease progression.
研究不足
Small sample size for each AOFVD stage group; manual measurement of choroidal thickness with potential for variability; use of FAST protocol with 19 lines providing lower resolution compared to high-resolution scans.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Prospective observational cross-sectional study comparing choroidal thickness in AOFVD patients and healthy controls using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and fundus autofluorescence.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
63 eyes of 51 subjects (28 control eyes and 35 AOFVD eyes) were examined. Inclusion criteria included age ≥50 years, normal or subnormal EOG findings, and normal ERG findings and color vision.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Heidelberg Spectralis SD-OCT (software version 5.4.7.0; Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) for OCT imaging.
4:0; Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) for OCT imaging. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
4. Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow: Complete ophthalmologic examination, fundus autofluorescence, and SD-OCT were performed. Choroidal thickness was measured manually from the outer border of the RPE to the inner scleral surface at the fovea and 1500 μm nasally, temporally, superiorly, and inferiorly to the fovea.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS software (v19; SPSS, Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) with unpaired t tests, chi-square tests, and Pearson or Spearman correlation coefficients.
