To propose improved PVT collectors with an optimal balance of energy efficiency, weight/strength, cost and ease of manufacture, specifically by considering alternative polymeric absorber-exchangers with geometrical designs that significantly reduce weight and cost relative to conventional (copper sheet-to-tube) designs, while maximising heat transfer and thereby improving or at least maintaining the overall (thermal and electrical) efficiency of the collectors.

The research concludes that flat-box designs, particularly those made of polycarbonate (PC), offer a promising alternative to conventional sheet-and-tube PVT collectors. These designs achieve slightly improved thermal performance, lower weight, and reduced investment costs, with lower thermal stresses, making them suitable for long-term use.

The study is limited to the range of materials and designs investigated. The model assumes perfect thermal contact between layers, which may not fully represent real-world conditions. Additionally, the study focuses on steady-state conditions and does not account for all dynamic environmental factors.
