研究目的
Investigating the importance and methods of varying data rate according to channel state for optical LEO downlinks (OLEODL) to cope with varying link budget and fast power scintillation due to atmospheric effects.
研究成果
Varying the data rate according to the channel state is an ideal solution to cope with the challenges of OLEODL, including varying link budget and fast power scintillation. It increases the overall throughput of the link by allowing data transmission even at lower elevations. Different options for achieving variable data rate are discussed, including varying the symbol rate and the source data rate or only the source data rate while keeping the channel symbol rate constant.
研究不足
The paper mentions that realistic throughput improvement factors could be slightly less than calculated due to assumptions like uniform position probability on the satellite's orbital sphere, no atmospheric turbulence, equivalent cloud probability, and constant receiver sensitivity on photons per bit.
