研究目的
Comparing the change in the width per year of the ellipsoid zone (EZ) band in patients with autosomal dominant (ad) and x-linked (xl) retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
研究成果
The OCT data support a faster rate of loss per year in the case of xlRP compared to adRP, with xlRP eyes losing functioning retinal area at a 2.5 times faster rate than adRP eyes.
研究不足
The EZ width method requires that the patients have a discernible EZ bands within the scan area. Current technology restricts the scans to the central 30° of retina, precluding the tracking of patients with less advanced or very advanced disease.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used to obtain 9-mm horizontal and vertical line scans through the fovea for one eye of 26 xlRP patients and 33 adRP patients. Scans were repeated on average
2:0 years later. A manual segmentation procedure was used to delineate the EZ band and determine its horizontal width (HW) and vertical width (VW). Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Patients were selected from a larger group involved in a double-blind treatment trial (xlRP) and from a preexisting database of patients followed clinically (adRP).
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Spectralis HRA+OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Vista, CA, USA) with the eye-tracking feature (ART) and an average of 100 images.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Scans were obtained at two visits, and the EZ band was manually segmented to determine its width.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Two-tailed t-tests were used to compare the groups, and Pearson correlations were used to evaluate significance.
