研究目的
Evaluating the degradation of high concentrations of formaldehyde in the chemical-less UVC/VUV photo-reactor.
研究成果
The UVC/VUV process is effective for the degradation and COD removal of high concentrations of formaldehyde, with hydroxyl radical being the main oxidative species. The process is promising as a chemical-less advanced oxidation technique.
研究不足
The study did not explore the long-term stability of the UVC/VUV process or its scalability for industrial applications. The inhibitory effects of certain water anions on the process efficiency were noted.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used a cylindrical Pyrex photo-reactor operated in circular mode with a low pressure mercury UV lamp emitting UV radiation at 254 nm (UVC) and 185 nm (VUV).
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Formaldehyde solutions were prepared by dissolving paraformaldehyde in distilled water.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
A peristaltic pump (Heidolph instrument; PD 5201) was used for solution recirculation.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
The effect of pH, initial formaldehyde concentration, water anions, and reaction time was evaluated.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Formaldehyde concentration was measured spectrophotometrically based on Hantzch method at 412 nm. COD was measured based on the colorimetric procedure.
