研究目的
To detect pre- and postoperative retinal changes in fundus autofluorescence (AF) and spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and to correlate these with functional outcome in patients with primary rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).
研究成果
Fundus AF and SD-OCT are reliable methods for identifying retinal reestablishment up to 30 months after primary RRD surgery, with good correlation to visual acuity. Preoperative factors like macular attachment and specific retinal features predict better long-term outcomes. The findings highlight the importance of long-term follow-up and suggest that these imaging techniques could aid in patient selection and counseling.
研究不足
The study was limited by a non-randomized design and relatively small sample size, which may introduce bias and reduce the ability to detect small differences. Some patients had delays between baseline measurements and surgery, potentially affecting data accuracy. Changes in BCVA measurement methods (Snellen to ETDRS) could lead to inaccuracies.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
A prospective, 30-month study design was used to evaluate retinal changes using SD-OCT and fundus AF imaging. Patients underwent 25-gauge vitrectomy for primary RRD, with examinations at baseline, 6 months, and 30 months postoperatively.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
84 patients (84 eyes) with primary RRD were included from the Department of Ophthalmology, Odense University Hospital, Denmark. Exclusions were based on pre-existing retinal pathology, previous trauma, or no follow-up data. Data included demographic, clinical, and imaging data.
3:List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
Equipment included SD-OCT (Topcon 3D OCT-2000), ultrawide-field imaging system (Optos 200Tx), auto refractor (Canon RK-F2), slit-lamp biomicroscopy, Goldmann applanation tonometer, and surgical tools for vitrectomy (Constellation system, Alcon). Materials included mydriatic eye drops (tropicamide 1%, epinephrine 10%), silicon oil (1000 cSt), and sulfur hexafluoride gas.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Preoperative and postoperative examinations involved BCVA measurement, intraocular pressure check, SD-OCT and AF imaging. Surgical procedures included pars plana vitrectomy with tamponade. Images were graded by trained graders using standardized protocols.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
Statistical analysis used Stata 13.0, including chi-square tests, Fisher's exact test, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, intraclass correlation coefficient, and kappa values for agreement. BCVA was converted to logMAR for analysis.
