研究目的
To clarify DOM dynamics and environmental behavior in urban streams in a WWTP effluent receiving area using EEM-PARAFAC, including investigating sources, characteristics, and photodegradation of fluorescent components.
研究成果
WWTP effluent is a major source of anthropogenic DOM components in urban streams, with humic-like and tryptophan-like components being allochthonous and tyrosine-like components having autochthonous sources. Photochemical degradation plays a key role in reducing fluorescent intensities downstream, highlighting the importance of EEM-PARAFAC for tracking DOM modifications beyond DOC monitoring.
研究不足
The photolysis conditions may not exactly replicate river environments, making it difficult to extrapolate results directly. The study did not determine specific fluorescing pollutants, and the variability in C5 measurements may be due to equipment limitations.
1:Experimental Design and Method Selection:
The study used the EEM method combined with PARAFAC to characterize DOM. Field sampling was conducted in an urban river impacted by WWTP effluent, and photolysis experiments were performed to simulate sunlight degradation.
2:Sample Selection and Data Sources:
Surface river water samples were collected monthly from seven sites (St.1 to St.7) in the Senkawa River, Japan, from July 2016 to May 2017. A sample from St.2 was used for photolysis experiments.
3:A sample from St.2 was used for photolysis experiments.
List of Experimental Equipment and Materials:
3. List of Experimental Equipment and Materials: Equipment included a fluorescence spectrophotometer (FP-8300, JASCO), total organic carbon analyser (TOC-V CPH, SHIMADZU), solar simulator (LCS-100, ORIENTAL INSTRUMENTS), and filters (GS-25, ADVANTEC; MF-Millipore). Materials included polyethylene amber bottles, quartz cells, and ultrapure water.
4:Experimental Procedures and Operational Workflow:
Samples were filtered, EEM measurements were performed with specified scanning ranges, PARAFAC analysis was conducted using Solo chemometrics software, DOC was measured, and photolysis experiments involved irradiating samples with simulated sunlight and measuring EEM at intervals.
5:Data Analysis Methods:
PARAFAC was used to decompose EEM spectra, ANOVA was used for statistical analysis, and data were processed with GraphPad Prism.
