  • A Fluorescent Probe with Aggregation-Induced Emission for Detecting Alkaline Phosphatase and Cell Imaging

    摘要: Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is associated with many diseases, and its accurate detection is of great significance. Fluorescent compounds with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) feature show beneficial advantages for serving as fluorescent probes. Herein, an AIE-active “turn on” probe for ALP detection was synthesized through incorporating a strong electron-withdrawing group (cyano) in the middle and the recognition moiety phosphate group at the end, thereby rendering a D–A–D structure with a relatively high conjugation degree and good water solubility. It was found that the probe TPE-CN-pho is highly sensitive to ALP in aqueous solution. In the presence of ALP, the hydrophilic phosphate group on the probe is rapidly removed, resulting in a decrease in water solubility and subsequent formation of aggregates, thereby achieving aggregation-induced emission. Moreover, the probe TPE-CN-pho has also been successfully applied to imaging ALP in living cells.

  • Light-Shield Layers Free Photosensitive Inverters Comprising GaN-Drivers and Multi-Layered MoS2-Loads

    摘要: Herein, GaN driver FETs with a high energy bandgap are employed in photosensitive inverters to eliminate light-shield layers (LSLs). This configuration exhibits full-swing characteristics of photosensitive inverters comprised of multi-layered MoS2 FETs loads in photosensitive pseudo-depletion mode. The GaN FETs provide both high current drivability and excellent photo-leakage immunity under visible light (Eg~3.1 eV). This allows the photosensitive inverters to be successfully operational without LSLs. The relative degradation (%) of voltage gain for photosensitive inverters with GaN drivers from dark to blue light exposure is improved from 67.7% to 53.0 %, as compared to previously reported MoS2 inverters with LSLs.

  • Chirality-Based Biosensors

    摘要: The fabrication of chiral nanostructures gives rise to characteristic chiroptical activity, which can be used for chirality-based biosensors. Great progress is made in the use of nanoassemblies for the construction of chiral nanoparticle dimers, pyramids, helices, and twisted structures, and their chiroptical activities correlate with diverse structural geometries and enantiomeric configurations. In DNA-hybridization-based chiral nanoassemblies, the assembly parameters, such as the components, gaps, multicomponents, and the aftergrowth of metal, can result in multiple bands and enhanced chiroptical effects. Based on known chiral nanostructures, the existing chiral nanoassembly-based biosensors together with their targets and signal amplification strategies are reviewed. Chirality involves multiple signals, and multitarget biosensors are introduced with newly developed chiral architectures for the accurate and reliable monitoring of biomarkers in living cells. The interactions between chiral nanoarchitectures and biosystems are also highlighted, which are important not only in the chiral dynamic switching of nano-objects for biomonitoring, but also in manipulating cell growth, proliferation, and adhesion. The future perspectives on chiral fabrication and its use in biosensors are also comprehensively discussed.

  • Nano- and Microfabrication for Industrial and Biomedical Applications || Chemical and biological sensors at component and?device level

    摘要: Chemical and biological sensors were initially explored at the microscale as an extension of microchip technology. They have considerable advantages because of their rapid throughput, and the need for very small samples. The development of better and smaller photometric and fluorometric detectors has enabled optical absorbance systems to be produced on a chip. Electrochemical sensors measure the conductance of electrolytes in an aqueous sample, and can also measure concentrations of gases that diffuse into the sample. This makes them valuable as personal health care monitors. These systems have been applied in medical monitoring, and for monitoring and controlling industrial-scale reactions. The integrated chemFET device is an example of a real-world application of this technology, and measures pH. The device is based on the ion-sensitive field-effect transistor (ISFET), which is caused by ions in solution producing a current across a transistor. Changes in the pH produce a proportionate change in the signal. Biological material, including DNA and cells, can also be used as a sensor. Cells have been used to detect pathogens in food, by adhering them to a sensor’s surface by means of a polymer, and then detecting changes in their electrochemistry. DNA optical readout is a widely accepted method for analyzing DNA sequences.

    摘要: Low-cost label-free bio-sensing systems have long been desired to enable rapid, sensitive, quantitative, and high-throughput biosensing and chemical applications. Here we present an optical bio-detection system consists of injection-molded biosensors based on double-sided grating waveguide couplers and an optical intensity-based detection platform for low-cost, real-time, and label-free bio-sensing. The biosensors were fabricated combining injection-molding and sputtering techniques, providing unique advantages of low-cost and reduced production time. A simple and cost-effective optical intensity-based detection system employing a low-cost light emitting diode and a simple photodetector is also developed to perform label-free bio-sensing. We demonstrate that a high refractive index resolution of 6.43 x 10^-5 RIU is achieved with this compact bio-sensing system, showing great promises for low-cost, real-time, label-free detection in bio-medical and chemical applications.

  • Recent Advances in Ferroelectric Nanosensors: Toward Sensitive Detection of Gas, Mechanothermal Signals, and Radiation

    摘要: A spontaneous polarization that occurs below the Curie temperature is characteristic for ferroelectric materials. This polarization is sensitive to many external conditions such as an electric field, mechanical deformation, temperature, and chemical and biological factors. Therefore, bulk ferroelectric materials have been used for decades in sensors and actuators. Recently, special attention has been paid to ferroelectric nanostructures that represent better sensing properties than their bulk counterparts. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of applications of nanoferroelectrics in different types of sensors, e.g., gas sensors and piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and piezoresistive sensors of mechanothermal signals, as well as photodetectors, ionizing radiation detectors, and biosensors. The recent achievements and challenges in these fields are summarized. This review also outlines the prospects for future development of sensors based on nanosized ferroelectrics.

    摘要: Optical fiber sensors are nowadays rapidly growing in the field of biomedical applications. It is possible to measure various variables, such as vital function, perform analysis of an analyte or observe bioluminescence. Specialized measurement using fiber optic sensors is the breath monitoring. For example, this system can be embedded into a bed for, or it can be a mobile device. Due to the passivity at the place of measurement and the use of non-magnetic materials in probe design, this solution is particularly interesting in applications where the environment is disturbed by the strong magnetic field such as in magnetic resonance imaging. The passivity of the sensor and operation over to long distance led to the idea of integration of sensors directly into the passive optical network. The design of coexistence of optic-fiber biosensors and PON is the primary aim of this publication. The proposed simulations and laboratory measurements point to problems that cause sensor integration into the network. As a result, methods for integrating sensors without compromising the communication part of the network are presented.

  • Biosensors in Applications

    摘要: These days, especially, the attention is increasing in high technology of sensors designed for various uses in biological matter, biomedicine, drug improvement, security, nutrition safety and ecological monitoring and measuring. The system of these sensors should typically be handy and economical, on condition that quick response with reliability, high sensitivity, and negligible false-reading counts are provided. Biosensors have a multi-disciplinary nature including: biology, chemistry, physics, instrumentation, electronics, optics, and market. The biosensors are detecting devices that combine a transducer with biologically sensitive and selective components. Biosensors can quantity combinations existing in the environment, chemical procedures, food and human body at inexpensive charge in comparison with traditional techniques. This editorial article briefly focuses on an overview of Biosensors, examples and providing a new vista of developments and applications.

  • Recent Progress in Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensors (2016 to Mid-2018)

    摘要: More than 50 papers on surface plasmon resonance biosensors, published between 2016 and mid-2018, are reviewed. Papers concerning the determination of large particles such as vesicles, exosomes, cancer cells, living cells, stem cells, and microRNA are excluded, as these are covered by a very recent review. The reviewed papers are categorized into five groups, depending on the degree of maturity of the reported solution; ranging from simple marker detection to clinical application of a previously developed biosensor. Instrumental solutions and details of biosensor construction are analyzed, including the chips, receptors, and linkers used, as well as calibration strategies. Biosensors with a sandwich structure containing different nanoparticles are considered separately, as are SPR (Surface Plasmon Resonance) applications for investigating the interactions of biomolecules. An analysis is also made of the markers determined using the biosensors. In conclusion, there is shown to be a growing number of SPR applications in the solution of real clinical problems.
