摘要: The present work investigates the performance of non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) in a hybrid visible light communication (VLC)/radio frequency (RF) wireless network. In particular, we investigate the energy efficiency of the proposed architecture assuming imperfect channel state information (CSI), which is a realistic assumption that is encountered in practical indoor and outdoor wireless communication scenarios. We demonstrate that the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of energy efficiency outperforms by four-fold the corresponding performance of its orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) counterpart. In addition, it is shown that the energy efficiency of the proposed scheme is more robust to CSI errors and line of sight (LOS) variations than the OFDMA-based scheme, which appears to be more susceptible to the CSI error and the LOS availability probability. Finally, our findings reveal that the performance gain of NOMA over OFDMA in the considered hybrid VLC/RF setup is directly proportional to the probability of LOS availability. These results are expected to be useful in the efficient design and efficient operation of hybrid VLC/RF wireless systems.

Design and Analysis of Optical Receiving Antenna for LED Visible Light Communication Based on Taguchi Method
摘要: A scheme for designing a novel optical receiving antenna is proposed to extend the field of view, receive higher power, and reduce the received-energy spot area for indoor visible light communication (VLC). ProE is used to model the antenna, while TracePro and Matlab are employed for simulations. Firstly, the lens wall of a compound parabolic concentrator with a certain rotation angle and thickness is obtained through rotating the parabolic reflector cross-section reference curve. Furthermore, a novel optical receiving antenna is designed in combination with the advantages of the lens-walled CPC and the spherical lens. Then, the Taguchi methodology and ANOVA technique are utilized to optimize the structure parameters of the receiving antenna. Finally, an indoor VLC system model is established and the channel performance is analyzed. Simulation results show that the designed antenna achieves the following performances: optical gain of 21.53, field of view of 45°, and spot size of 3 mm. The received power is 9.5532 dBm, and the SNR is 86.2526 dB, which further confirms that the designed optical receiving antenna is suitable for indoor VLC systems.

Comparison of DCO-OFDM, ADO-OFDM, HDC-OFDM and HNC-OFDM for Optical Wireless Communications
摘要: This paper presents a new form of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) termed as hybrid noise cancelled asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM (HNC-OFDM) for optical wireless communication. This HNC-OFDM is formed by combining the concepts of noise cancelled asymmetrically clipped optical OFDM and DC biased optical OFDM (DCO-OFDM). HNC-OFDM has the same bit error rate (BER) performance and dimming flexibility but less complexity compared to the recently developed hybrid diversity combined OFDM. The optimum DC bias level for HNC-OFDM, DCO-OFDM and asymmetrically clipped DC biased optical OFDM is shown to depend on the target BER, the constellation size, the received signal to noise power ratio, the proportion of DCO-OFDM element, the link type, equalization, etc. Simulations results show that with an optimum bias, HNC-OFDM can outperform others in an average power limited channel, while DCO-OFDM is a better choice for a peak power limited channel.

Highly Sensitive, Fast Response Perovskite Photodetectors Demonstrated in Weak Light Detection Circuit and Visible Light Communication System
摘要: Organic–inorganic hybrid perovskite (OIHP) photodetectors have presented unprecedented device performance mainly owing to outstanding material properties. However, the solution-processed OIHP polycrystalline thin films with defective surface and grain boundaries always impair the key parameter of photodetectors. Herein, a nonfullerene passivation layer exhibits more efficient passivation for OIHP materials to dramatically reduce the trap density of state, yielding a dark current as low as 2.6 × 10?8 A cm ?2 under ?0.1 V. In addition, the strong absorption in near-infrared (NIR) region of nonfullerene/C60 heterojunction broadens the detectable range to over 900 nm by effective charge transport, ultimately leading to a specific detectivity of 1.45 × 1012 and 7.37 × 1011 cm Hz1/2 W?1 at 650 and 820 nm, respectively. Encouragingly, the response speed of 27 ns is obtained at 0.6 mm2 of device area by removing constrain from the resistance–capacitance constant. Moreover, the prominent practical application of the photodetector is demonstrated in a weak light detection circuit and a visible light communication system. It is believed that the OIHP photodetectors with high sensitivity, NIR photoresponse, and ultrafast speed would pave the way to commercial applications.

Study on Modulation Bandwidth and Light Extraction Efficiency of Flip-Chip Light-Emitting Diode with Photonic Crystals
摘要: In this study, the photonic crystal structure is employed to increase both the light extraction e?ciency and the modulation bandwidth of ?ip-chip GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs). The ?nite di?erence time domain method is utilized to investigate the in?uence of structure of photonic crystals on the Purcell factor and light extraction e?ciency of ?ip-chip GaN-based LEDs. Simulation results show that the modulation bandwidth is estimated to be 202 MHz at current densities of 1000 A/cm2. The experimental result of modulation bandwidth is in accord with the simulation. The optical f-3dB of the device achieves 212 MHz at current densities of 1000 A/cm2 and up to 285 MHz at current densities of 2000 A/cm2. This design of photonic crystal ?ip-chip LED has the potential for applications in high-frequency visible light communication.

The static and dynamic analysis of GaN-based blue light-emitting diodes used in visible light communication
摘要: The static and dynamic electrical characteristics of GaN-based blue light-emitting diodes with different numbers of quantum wells were investigated by software Silvaco technology computer-aided design numerically, which were essential for visible light communication study. As a factor impacts on the response time of light-emitting diodes, the capacitance, varying with applied bias, with modulation frequency, and with the numbers of quantum wells, was analyzed detailedly. Besides that, the response time of light-emitting diodes, including the optical rise time and fall time, was also ?rstly simulated in Silvaco, and then, based on these, the pure - 3 dB bandwidth of the light-emitting diodes without building-out circuit could be calculated, so as to self-design semiconductor devices like light-emitting diodes mentioned in this study with the optimum bandwidth used for visible light communication.

A system for monitoring farmed fish via LED‐based visible light communication
摘要: We propose a novel fish farm monitoring system utilizing visible light communication technology. In our system, a sensor node equipped with a full-color LED module is attached to fish to transmit sensor data. A sink node equipped with an omnidirectional camera at the bottom of the cage receives sensor data. This is a simple, low-energy approach for data transmission. We establish the fundamental performance of our proposed system through simulations.

High-bandwidth InGaN self-powered detector arrays toward MIMO visible light communication based on micro-LED arrays
摘要: This work reports the use of the chip-based GaN-based micro-LED (μLED) arrays for multifunctional applications as micro-display, data transmitters, photodetectors and solar cells. The functions of display and transmitter have been reported, and particularly we experimentally demonstrated that μLED arrays could be used as self-powered, high-performance and wavelength-selective photodetectors (PDs) enabling high-speed multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) visible light communications (VLC) under on-off keying (OOK) modulation scheme using 405 nm violet laser diodes (LDs) as transmitters. The optoelectronic and communication characteristics of the μLED-based PDs with diameters of 40 μm, 60 μm and 100 μm were systematically studied. The optoelectronic analysis shows superior performances of μLED-based PDs at 405 nm wavelength compared with other previously reported GaN-based PDs. Under a bias voltage of -5 V, the comparable peak responsivities of 0.27, 0.31 and 0.24 A/W, specific detectivities of 1.1 × 1011, 2.3 × 1012 and 2.1 × 1012 cm ? H1/2 ? W-1, and linear dynamic ranges (LDRs) of 152, 162 and 164 dB were achieved for 40-μm, 60-μm and 100-μm μLEDs, respectively. Even at zero-bias, i.e. self-powered mode, we have achieved high peak responsivities of 0.24, 0.29 and 0.21 A/W, high specific detectivities of 7.5 × 1012, 1.5 × 1013 and 1.3 × 1013 cm?H1/2?W-1 and high LDR up to 186, 196 and 197 dB for 40-μm, 60-μm and 100-μm μLEDs, respectively. The μLEDs could also be used to harvest the optical energy of the system, working as solar cells. The μLED-based PD arrays were tested as receivers in VLC system to implement high-speed parallel communication, which yields maximum data rates of 180 Mbps, 175 Mbps and 185 Mbps for a single 40-μm, 60-μm and 100-μm μLED-based PDs at a distance of 1 m with BERs of 3.5 × 10-3, 3.7 × 10-3 and 3.5 × 10-3, respectively. Furthermore, 2 × 2 MIMO parallel VLC system was achieved to increase the VLC data rate, which suggests the potential of using large μLED-based PD arrays for multiple Gbps and even Tbps VLC applications.

摘要: Developing visible-light communication (VLC) with easy-to-use circuit modules in order to be integrated with consumer electronics could facilitate VLC technology adopted in more wireless applications for home. The study first implements functions of lighting for reading and data transmitting with a white organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel. A method to keep the two functions implemented on the same lighting panel from interfering with each other is proposed and investigated. For data transmission, an optical receiver working with the OLED-based data transmitter to organize an optical channel is also proposed with a cost-effective approach based on a mature infrared receiver module. Under the recommended illuminance of 500 lux for reading and office work, home devices can receive codes in 2404 bps with the low-cost and convenient optical channel.
