  • A Monochromatic Soft X-ray Generation from Femtosecond Laser-produced Plasma with Aluminum

    摘要: A tabletop ultrafast soft x-ray has been generated from the laser-produce plasma with a femtosecond pulsed Ti:Sapphire laser. The estimated total ?ux of Al Kα is of 2.2 × 109 photons/sec in 4π radian and the parameters related to the optical performance were obtained. The tungsten/silicon multilayer, ?at quartz and bent thallium acid phthalate (TLAP) crystal were used for monochromatization of soft x-ray to re?ne the aluminum Kα radiation and compared the respective value of E/ΔE. To estimate the size of the x-ray source beam generated by a fs laser, the approximation using the FWHM obtained from the x-ray beam scan near the focal point was discussed, and the size of the diameter was about 9.76 μm.

  • Sputtering yield measurements of laser ablated Mg-alloy correlated with surface, structural and mechanical modifications

    摘要: Sputtering yield of laser ablated Mg-alloy has been measured by Quartz Crystal Microbalance at various fluences ranging from 11.6–44.2 J/cm2, under two different environments of Ar and O2. The sputtering yield initially increases from 14.58 × 1014 to 23.49 × 1014 and from 4.5 × 1014 to 22.60 × 1014 (atoms/pulse) by increasing fluence and then decreases upto a value of 19.78 × 1014 and 19.94 × 1014 (atoms/pulse) at the maximum fluence, under Ar and O2 environment respectively. Scanning Electron Microscope analysis reveals the formation of cones, cavities, droplets, ripples and island like structures on the irradiated Mg surface. Surface profilometry analysis reveals that the crater depth of laser irradiated Mg-alloy ranges from 188 to 209 μm. It initially increases by increasing laser fluence and afterwards, decreases at the maximum fluence. Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), X-Ray Diffraction analysis (XRD) and Ultraviolet-Visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy confirm the oxide formation for the laser treated target of Mg in O2. The Vickers Micro-hardness testing reveals that hardness of laser irradiated Mg-alloy is increased by increasing fluence. The surface structures, crater depth and hardness of laser irradiated Mg-alloy are strongly dependent upon laser fluence and are correlated with sputtering yield measurements.

  • Rapid synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles by waste thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.)

    摘要: Synthesis of nanoparticles by utilizing microorganisms and plants in green methods is a feasible procedure. This method can be used instead of chemical procedures as an eco-friendly procedure. Antibacterial activity of zinc oxide nanoparticles as one of the best multifunctional nanoparticles is well known. In this study, ZnO nanoparticles were produced by waste thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) extract. SEM, XRD, UV–Vis, visual analysis and FTIR spectroscopic techniques were used for characterizing ZnO nanoparticles. The absorption of wavelengths of the UV–Vis in the region of 290–320 nm confirmed the formation of zinc oxide nanoparticles. The average size of ZnO nanoparticles was estimated 10–35 nm by SEM technique. An eco-friendly method for the synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles can be used in which the waste thyme extract is used as a stabilizing agent. Therefore, the use of waste thyme extract is an alternative to the chemical methods. Biological methods are rapid, green, economical and simple to perform.

  • Structural studies of thin Mg films

    摘要: In the present work variable energy positron annihilation spectroscopy (VEPAS) was employed for investigation of defects in Mg films. VEPAS characterization was combined with scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction in order to determine grain size and texture respectively. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of deposition temperature and various substrates on structure and defects in Mg films prepared by RF magnetron sputtering. SEM observations revealed that films deposited on sapphire (0001) substrate exhibit always smaller grains than films deposited on amorphous fused silica and silicon (100) substrates, which have comparable grain size. Defect studies by VEPAS showed that positrons in Mg films studied are trapped at misfit dislocations and at vacancy-like defects in grain boundaries. Moreover, the films deposited on a substrate heated at 300?C exhibited lower concentration of defects and larger grain size compared to the films deposited at room temperature. Subsequent annealing at 300?C for 1 h of the films deposited at room temperature causes a slight decrease of defect density due to coarsening of grains.

  • Facile Synthesis and Characterization of Zn2V2O7 Nanoparticles

    摘要: Zinc vanadate (Zn2V2O7) nanoparticles were synthesized by facile thermal decomposition method. The as-synthesized Zn2V2O7 nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Ultraviolet-visible (DRS-UV-visible) spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. X-ray diffraction shows that the synthesized sample belongs to Zn2V2O7. FT-IR confirms the formation of Zn-O bond in the sample. UV-visible and photoluminescence studies reveal the optical property of the Zn2V2O7 nanoparticles. The nanobar-like morphology was confirmed by both SEM and TEM analysis.

  • Structural and electrical properties of boron doped InSe single crystals

    摘要: Structural and electrical properties of undoped, 0.1%, 0.5% and 1.8% boron doped InSe single crystals grown by modified Bridgman method have been studied by using XRD, Raman and I-V measurements. XRD spectra reveal that undoped and boron doped crystals investigated have hexagonal structure with lattice parameters a = 4.005 ?, c = 16.640 ? and z = 4, belonging to the P63/mmc space group. The strongest peak in the XRD patterns is due to the reflection from the (004) plane indicating that these crystals grew with a preferred orientation. Raman spectra show phonon bands in the 400-450 cm-1 wavenumber range characteristics of InSe single crystals. Temperature dependence of conductivity of undoped and boron doped InSe single crystals show three different mechanisms discerned as extended state conductivity, conduction in band tail and conduction in localized sites. It is observed that electrical conductivity increases while activation energy decreases with increasing boron concentration.

  • Effect of Temperature of Electron Beam Evaporated CdSe Thin Films

    摘要: CdSe thin films were deposited on a glass substrate by using electron beam evaporation technique. The as deposited films were annealed from 100oC to 300°C with an increment of 100°C. Morphological, structural and optical characterization of the films was carried out by using scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy; and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction pattern that the film has a cubic phase with preferred orientation (100), the grain size was found to be in the range of 29-46 nm. SEM results reveal that film grains are polycrystalline in nature covered the whole surface of the substrate.

  • Fabrication and Characterization of Superconducting Bilayer (Al/Ti) Transition-Edge Sensor Bolometer Array

    摘要: A four-by-four transition-edge sensor (TES) bolometer array based on an Al/Ti bilayer on an Si3N4 substrate for thermal connection, showing an unbiased transition temperature of 1.2 K, was fabricated and characterized. Formation of the Al/Ti bilayer with tetragonal structure was confirmed by x-ray diffraction analysis. The surface roughness of 3.11 nm calculated by atomic force microscopy was found to be negligible compared with the particle size (19.66 nm), indicating a smooth surface. The smoothness of the resistance–temperature (R–T) curve corresponds to the smoothness of the surface of the bilayer sensor, and the superconducting transition curve of the suspended bilayer TES was designed with a biased Tc of 0.45 K and DTc = 2 mK. Such TES bolometer arrays are suitable for astrophysical observations and are extensively used in cosmic microwave background polarization detection.

  • Preparation and Characterization of Copper Doped Cd0.7Zn0.3S Thin Film and Evaluation of Doping Effect of Copper

    摘要: Cd0.7Zn0.3S was doped for different mol % of Cu was prepared by chemically deposited technique. The film has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive spectroscopy and ultra violet spectroscopy. The result of X-ray diffraction showed that the films are polycrystalline in nature with a hexagonal structure. SEM studies revealed the size of the sphere increases initially with the increase in Cu concentration. The presence of elemental constituent has been confirmed by energy dispersive X-ray analysis. Results obtained from optical studies showed that the band gap energy varied from 4.650 to 3.265 eV, which confirmed the decrease of band gap with increase in the concentration of Cu on Cd0.7Zn0.3S.
