    摘要: Although electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring systems have been available in the form of wearable patches for the better part of two decades, they are limited in their ability to be utilized as inexpensive, yet vital short-term measurement devices that are (truly) completely disposable. Advancing current practices in soft conformable electronics, we present a Bluetooth-enabled, fully disposable single-lead ECG patch comprising ink-jet printed Ag-AgCl electrodes and components integrated on a single, flexible hybrid printed circuit board with an average current consumption of 3.6 mA from a 3.0 V stack of four flexible Lithium polymer batteries. As part of the Live Demonstration, our goals are to showcase the patch’s functionality including real-time continuous ECG display and fall detection, and the flexible enclosures and adhesives conferring its unique softness, strength and disposability following a 7-day lifespan.

  • Acquiring spatially varying appearance of printed holographic surfaces

    摘要: We present two novel and complimentary approaches to measure diffraction effects in commonly found planar spatially varying holographic surfaces. Such surfaces are increasingly found in various decorative materials such as gift bags, holographic papers, clothing and security holograms, and produce impressive visual effects that have not been previously acquired for realistic rendering. Such holographic surfaces are usually manufactured with one dimensional diffraction gratings that are varying in periodicity and orientation over an entire sample in order to produce a wide range of diffraction effects such as gradients and kinematic (rotational) effects. Our proposed methods estimate these two parameters and allow an accurate reproduction of these effects in real-time. The first method simply uses a point light source to recover both the grating periodicity and orientation in the case of regular and stochastic textures. Under the assumption that the sample is made of the same repeated diffractive tile, good results can be obtained using just one to five photographs on a wide range of samples. The second method is based on polarization imaging and enables an independent high resolution measurement of the grating orientation and relative periodicity at each surface point. The method requires a minimum of four photographs for accurate results, does not assume repetition of an exemplar tile, and can even reveal minor fabrication defects. We present point light source renderings with both approaches that qualitatively match photographs, as well as real-time renderings under complex environmental illumination.

    摘要: In this paper a hardware implementation of the Gaussian Mixture Model algorithm for background modelling and foreground object segmentation is presented. The proposed vision system is able to handle video stream with resolution up to 4K (3840x2160 pixels) and 60 frames per second. Moreover, the constraints caused by memory bandwidth limit are also discussed and a few different solutions to tackle this issue have been considered. The designed modules have been verified on the ZCU102 development board with Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC device. Additionally, the computing performance and power consumption have been estimated.

  • Smart Energy Optimization Using Heuristic Algorithm in Smart Grid with Integration of Solar Energy Sources

    摘要: Smart grid (SG) vision has come to incorporate various communication technologies, which facilitate residential users to adopt different scheduling schemes in order to manage energy usage with reduced carbon emission. In this work, we have proposed a residential load management mechanism with the incorporation of energy resources (RESs) i.e., solar energy. For this purpose, a real-time electricity price (RTP), energy demand, user preferences and renewable energy parameters are taken as an inputs and genetic algorithm (GA) has been used to manage and schedule residential load with the objective of cost, user discomfort, and peak-to-average ratio (PAR) reduction. Initially, RTP is used to reduce the energy consumption cost. However, to minimize the cost along with reducing the peaks, a combined pricing model, i.e., RTP with inclining block rate (IBR) has been used which incorporates user preferences and RES to optimally schedule load demand. User comfort and cost reduction are contradictory objectives, and difficult to maximize, simultaneously. Considering this trade-off, a combined pricing scheme is modelled in such a way that users are given priority to achieve their objective as per their requirements. To validate and analyze the performance of the proposed algorithm, we first propose mathematical models of all utilized loads, and then multi-objective optimization problem has been formulated. Furthermore, analytical results regarding the objective function and the associated constraints have also been provided to validate simulation results. Simulation results demonstrate a significant reduction in the energy cost along with the achievement of both grid stability in terms of reduced peak and high comfort.

  • Optical Sensing of Broadband RF Magnetic Field Using a Micrometer-Sized Diamond

    摘要: High-resolution ?eld imaging with minimized invasiveness is of growing interest with the development of radio frequency (RF) integrated circuits and planar antenna characterization. In this paper, we propose an optical broadband sensor with static offset magnetic ?eld using a diamond crystal that contains an ensemble of nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers. The spatial resolution of micrometer scale is demonstrated by using a diamond crystal of this size. This technique is based on the modulation of ?uorescence emitting by NV center under green laser excitation, by an off-axis magnetic ?eld at radio frequencies. We demonstrate experimentally the detection of an RF magnetic ?eld, with minimum measurable amplitude on the order of 0.1 Gauss, which is limited by the noise ?oor of the avalanche photodetector. The sensitivity can be further improved by noise suppression in optics. The bandwidth of the sensor is measured to be 15 MHz.

  • Freezing Induced Turn-on Modality for Real-time Imaging in Cryosurgery

    摘要: Cryosurgery has attracted great attention for the treatment of tumors due to its obvious advantages. However, it still remains a challenge to determine the volume of frozen tissues in real-time, which greatly lowers the therapeutic efficacy of cryosurgery and hinders its broad application for the treatment of cancers. Herein, we report a freezing induced turn-on strategy for selective real-time imaging of frozen cancer cells. As a type of aggregation induced emission (AIE) fluorogen, TABD-Py molecules interact specifically with ice crystals and form aggregates at the ice/water interface. Consequently, bright fluorescent emission appears upon freezing. Note that TABD-Py molecules are enriched only in the cancer cells and exhibit high biocompatibility as well as low cytotoxicity, therefore a freezing induced turn-on imaging modality for cryosurgery is developed, which will certainly maximize therapeutic efficacy of cryosurgery in treating tumors.

    摘要: A real-time latching controller with consideration of wave force prediction is developed and applied to a heaving point-absorber to maximize its energy absorption. The control scheme is based on the combination of optimal command theory and first order-one variable grey model GM(1,1). By forecasting the wave forces in the near future, the control action at the next instant is deduced. Simulation results show that the energy absorption is increased due to the real-time controller. Therefore, the developed real-time controller is applicable to an industrial wave energy converter (WEC) in random waves. The effect of wave force prediction deviation is also examined. It is shown that the control efficiency is reduced in the presence of prediction deviation.

    摘要: This demo shows a computing system able to process data from electrophysiology cultures in real-time. It is the first one able to identify eventual relationship among living cells from the cell activity signals. The hardware demonstrator is able to acquire data from 64 analog signals sampled at 10kHz, but the computing architecture is flexible enough to provide various number of input electrodes depending of its configuration. Most of the parameters are user definable without reconfiguration to ensure the usability of the system for real-life biology experiment.

  • Compact Real-Time Inter-Frame Histogram Builder for 15Bits High-Speed ToF-Imagers based on Single-Photon Detection

    摘要: Time-of-flight image sensors based on single-photon detection, i.e. SPADs, require some filtering of pixel readings. Accurate depth measurements are only possible if the jitter of the detector is mitigated. Moreover, the time stamp needs to be effectively separated from uncorrelated noise such as dark counts and background illumination. A powerful tool for this is building a histogram of a number of pixel readings. Future generation of ToF imagers are seeking to increase spatial and temporal resolution along with the dynamic range and frame rate. Under these circumstances, storing the complete histogram for every pixel becomes practically impossible. Considering that most of the information contained by the histogram represents noise, we propose a highly efficient method to store just the relevant data required for ToF computation. This method makes use of the shifted inter-frame histogram (SifH). It requires a memory as low as 128 times smaller than storing the complete histogram if the pixel values are coded on up to 15 bits. Moreover, a fixed 28 words memory is enough to process histograms containing up to 215 bins. In exchange, the overall frame rate only decreases to one half. The hardware implementation of this algorithm is presented. Its remarkable robustness for a low SNR of the ToF estimation is demonstrated by Matlab simulations and FPGA implementation using input data from a SPAD camera prototype.

    摘要: A landing system is an essential part of an Autonomous Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to perform autonomous aviation missions. Such a system requires a landing mechanism and a procedure that will allow a safe return to a selected landing position when the mission tasks are finished. In this paper the authors present a concept and first results of a developed system that is connected to a drone which allows automatic landing of a vehicle based on image processing of images captured in real-time by on-board cameras. The system consists of three different cameras: a visible light camera, an infrared camera and a thermal imaging camera. Preliminary results and comparison of developed image processing algorithms for different cameras and two different landing markers are also presented here.
