  • Bi-functional heater-thermometer Nd3+-doped nanoparticles with multiple temperature sensing parameters

    摘要: Achieving a combination of real-time diagnosis and therapy in a single platform with sensitive thermometry and efficient heat production is a crucial step towards controllable photo-thermal therapy. Here, Nd3+-doped Y2O3 nanoparticles prepared by combined Pechini-foaming technique operating in first and second biological windows were demonstrated as thermal sensors within wide temperature range of 123–873 K and heaters with temperature increase by 100 K. Thermal sensing was performed based on various approaches: luminescence intensity ratio (electronic levels; Stark sublevels), spectral line position and line bandwidth were used as temperature dependent parameters. Applicability of regarded sensing parameters along with relative thermal sensitivity and temperature resolution were discussed and compared. Influence of Nd3+ doping concentration on thermometer and heater efficiency was also investigated.

  • Enhanced NIR-NIR luminescence from CaWO4: Nd3+/Yb3+ phosphors by Li+ codoping for thermometry and optical heating

    摘要: Rare earth ions doped luminescent materials have demonstrated their potentiality as sensitive thermometers with good accuracy and high spatial resolution. Nevertheless, low luminescence efficiency, especially at high temperature, still limits the development of this thermometry technique. Here, Nd3+/Yb3+ codoped CaWO4 phosphors were synthesized using high temperature solid-state method, and Li+ ions were introduced aiming to improve the near-infrared (NIR) emissions from Nd3+ in the spectral range of 725-950 nm. The influence of Li+ codoping on the structure and NIR luminescence in CaWO4: Nd3+/Yb3+ when excited by a 980 nm laser diode was investigated. NIR-NIR emissions from Li+ codoped samples are successfully strengthened compared with that without Li+ ions, which is mainly attributed to the distortion of the crystal structure and the increase of crystalline size by Li+. The optical temperature sensing behavior of NIR luminescence from Nd3+ was studied based on fluorescence intensity ratio (FIR). Assisted by Li+ ions, the NIR-NIR emissions are observed to be effectively enhanced with the increment of temperature. And a new pair of thermally coupled levels in Nd3+ ions with excellent thermometry characteristics is explored, through which superior measurement sensitivity as well as accuracy could be achieved. In addition, light-induced temperature rise was realized in the phosphors, which makes CaWO4: Nd3+/Yb3+/Li+ excellent candidate for luminescence thermometry and optical heaters.

  • A novel Nd <sup>3+</sup> -doped MgO-Al <sub/>2</sub> O <sub/>3</sub> -SiO <sub/>2</sub> -based transparent glass-ceramics: towards excellent fluorescence properties

    摘要: Generally, glass-ceramics have superior properties compared to their parent glasses. Here, we prepared a novel Nd3+-doped MgO-Al2O3-SiO2-based transparent glass-ceramics with excellent fluorescence properties. The effects of Nd2O3 content on the structure and properties of glass-ceramics were studied, aiming to provide a key guidance for preparing this transparent glass-ceramics. The results revealed that the glass stability increased originally and then decreased with increasing Nd2O3 content, so did the variation of wavenumbers in infrared spectra. And these glass-ceramics are mainly composed of cordierite with residual glassy phase. The three phenomenological intensity parameters (Ω2,4,6) and radiative properties were estimated by Judd-Ofelt theory, and the values of Ω2 first decreased and then increased with increasing Nd2O3 content. Three main emission peaks ascribed to the transitions from 4F3/2 to 4I9/2, 4I11/2, 4I13/2 at 898, 1057, 1330 nm were observed, respectively. The branching ratios for 4F3/2→4I11/2 transition increased as the Nd2O3 content raised, and the fluorescence lifetimes of the 4F3/2 level were found to increase first and then decrease with Nd2O3 content (from 181 to 726 μs). The excellent fluorescence properties indicate that this novel glass-ceramics can be used as a potential solid-state optical functional material for 1.06 μm laser emission.

  • Effect of Eu3+ ions on optical and fluorescence studies of Nd3+ ions doped zinc-lithium fluoroborate glasses

    摘要: Nd3+ single and Nd3+/Eu3+ co-doped ZnF2-LiF-Na2CO3-Bi2O3-H3BO3, zinc lithium fluoroborate (ZLFNBiB) glasses with good optical properties have been prepared by high temperature melt-quenching method. The single and co-doped samples exhibiting emission bands centered at 874, 1058 and 1330 nm under the excitation of 808 nm laser diode (LD). The photoluminescence spectra for co-doped glasses were recorded under the 394 and 464 nm of xenon lamp as excitation sources. The Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters were calculated from optical absorption spectrum and radiative parameters from the emission spectrum of 0.5 mol% of Nd3+ doped glass. The large stimulated emission cross-section and branching ratio values are evaluated and compared with the other Nd3+ doped systems, the energy transfer from Eu3+ to Nd3+ ions is observed and thoroughly discussed from NIR emission spectra (λexc = 394 nm) of co-doped glasses. The decay profiles are recorded for all the concentrations of co-doped samples and the experimental lifetimes (τexp) were obtained from the decay profiles. The binding energy and Urbach energy values of prepared glass samples were calculated and discussed.

  • Photoluminescent and thermoluminescent properties of low temperature synthesized Nd3+ doped Mg2SiO4 nanophosphors for display and dosimetry applications

    摘要: A potential green emitting orthorhombic Mg2SiO4:Nd3+ (1- 9 mol %) nanophosphors were synthesized by low temperature (350 oC) solution combustion technique. The characteristic PL emission peaks at ~ 458 nm (2G9/2 →4I9/2) and ~ 518 nm (4G5/2+2G7/2→4I9/2) were recorded upon 420 nm excitation and maximum intensity was observed for 3 mol % Nd3+ doped samples. The optimised sample exhibit CIE coordinates (0.1667, 0.4336) in green region with quantum efficiency of 65 %. The latent fingerprint detection analysis was carried out using optimised sample on versatile surfaces. The thermoluminescence studies of the γ- irradiated (1- 5 kGy) Mg2SiO4:Nd3+ (3 mol %) samples was studied with heating rate of 5 oCs-1. The TL glow peak was observed at 160 oC. The estimated trap parameters (b, E, s) by standard methods were reported. The obtained results from photoluminescence, fingerprint detection analysis and thermoluminescence properties suggest that the optimised phosphor could be a candidate for WLEDs, forensic and dosimetry applications.

  • Synthesis and Luminescence properties of Lithium Aluminium Phosphate Glasses Doped with Nd <sup>3+</sup> Ion for Laser Medium

    摘要: Nd3+ ion doped lithium aluminium phosphate glasses were synthesized and studied their properties for laser medium application. The density and the refractive index of the glass samples were carried out at the room temperature. The optical and luminescence properties were studied by investigating absorption and NIR emission spectra of the glass samples. The glasses absorbed photons in ultraviolet (UV), visible light (VIS) and near-infrared (NIR) regions are clearly observed from absorption spectra. For the photoluminescence properties, the glass samples showed the strongest emission at 1063 nm when it were excited by 581 nm which assigned to the energy transitions of Nd3+. The three phenomenological Judd-Ofelt parameters (?2, ?4, ?6) were determined from the spectral intensities of absorption band in order to calculate the radiative transition possibility (AR), stimulated emission cross section (σ(?p)) and branching ratio (?R) of the 4F3/2?4I9/2, 4I11/2 and 4I13/2 transitions. From the obtained results the conclusions made about the possibility of using these glasses as laser material.

  • Study on Features of 532nm Laser as Laser Source of Lidar

    摘要: The laser source of Lidar usually uses the high power solid laser, the performance of Lidar depends on the laser features, so that to study the laser features is contribute to optimizing the performance of Lidar. Set up and design a pulse solid laser of Nd3+:YAG as the working substance. Through adopting the KTP crystal frequency multiplication technology outside the laser cavity and electro-optic q-switch technique, the maximum dynamic pulse energy of 155mJ and pulse width of 9.6 ns with the 532nm laser is generated. Using the oscilloscope, photoelectric pulse sensor and laser energy meter to measurement the experimental data of the laser source features Through analyze and discuss the experimental data, the relationship between the pulse width, the static and dynamic ratio, the peak power of the pulse Nd3+:YAG laser, the frequency doubling efficiency of the KTP crystal and the input power of laser are given, the solid laser system and the experimental data can provide a basic equipment and reference data to the further study.

  • Structural, spectroscopic and optical gain of Nd3+ doped fluorophosphate glasses for solid state laser application

    摘要: The optical absorption measurements exhibited signature of Nd3+ absorption bands in fluorophosphate glasses showed. The spectroscopic analysis have been carried out using Judd-Ofelt parameters and oscillator strength to determine radiative properties such as radiative transition probability (AR), branching ratio (βr), lifetime (τ), emission cross-section (σe) and quantum efficiency (η). The highest emission intensity was found at 1060 nm for transition 4F3/2 → 4I13/2 under excitation wavelength of 582 nm for PANCaFN2. The emission cross section, branching ratio and lifetime were evaluated and showed 4.92 × 10?20 cm2, 0.7 and 200 μs, respectively. More importantly, the outstanding quantum efficiency of PANCaFN2 could reach to 98.92%. The addition of Nd3+ ion into fluorophosphate glass could enhance the spectroscopic properties which could play as a potential candidate for solid state applications. Theoretical optical gain evaluation and experimental calculation confirmed that PANCaFN2 had the higher gain than other samples.

  • Nd <sup>3+</sup> Doped In Zinc Barium Tellurite Oxyfluoride Glasses For Laser Application

    摘要: The tellurite glasses doped with Nd3+ ion were prepared with the compositions (55-x)TeO2-10ZnF2-35BaO-xNd2O3 (where x = 0.00, 0.05, 0.10, 0.50 1.00 and 1.50 mol%) by the normal melt quenching technique and characterized the spectroscopic properties. The spectroscopic properties of tellurite glasses measured from the absorption and emission measurements with Judd-Ofelt analysis. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern confirms the amorphous nature. UV-Vis-NIR absorption spectra of tellurite glasses divulged nine significant peaks. The absorption peaks slightly increase with increasing of Nd3+ concentration. The NIR emission spectra at 913, 1,069 and 1,341 nm have been registered for Nd3+ in tellurite glasses, which corresponds to the transitions originating from 4F3/2 level to the 4I9/2, 4I11/2 and 4I13/2 levels of Nd3+ ion, respectively, under the excitation of 523 nm. The results indicate that the prepared glass system could be a suitable candidate for using it as laser gain media around 1,069 nm.

  • Effects of La3+ on the enhancement NIR quantum cutting and UC emissions in Nd3+–Yb3+ co-doped transparent silicate glass-ceramics for solar cells

    摘要: Near-infrared (NIR) quantum cutting (QC) and upconversion (UC) emission of Nd3+–Yb3+ co-doped in Si–Al–Ba–La transparent silicate glass-ceramics (SGC) were prepared. Influence of La3+ on the enhancement NIR QC and UC emission intensity of the co-doped Nd3+–Yb3+ in SGC were investigated. Thereby, NIR QC and UC emission intensity of the co-doped Nd3+–Yb3+ were increased strongly with increasing concentration of LaF3 from 5 up to 25 mol. %. The value of NIR QC emission intensity of the co-doped Nd3+–Yb3+ band centered at ~890, 947, 1071, 1339 and 1430 nm is maximized when the concentration of LaF3 reaches 25 mol. %. At the same time, with the increasing concentration of Yb3+, NIR QC emission intensity of the co-doped Nd3+–Yb3+ bands centered at ~890, 1071, 1339 and 1430 nm of Nd3+ and 947 nm of Yb3+ were gradually increased and reaches its maximum at 2.5 mol. % Yb3+, then decreased owing to the self-quenching effect. In addition, NIR QC mechanism and energy transfer (ET) processes between 2F5/2 → 2F7/2 transition of Yb3+ and transitions of Nd3+ are discussed.
